I stayed at this hotel Thanksgiving day through the weekend. I traveled to Laredo with my husband and 3 year old daughter for my cousin's wedding. When we first arrived on Thanksgiving day it was great because we had just arrived in town from a very long car drive and were able to check in to our room early and the room was spacious and clean. But after that it went downhill very quickly. The following day there was only one elevator working so had to wait a very long time for the elevator. Normally this would not be a big issue, except we had our 3 year old with us and not so easy going down several flights of stairs. Then the next day both elevators were no longer working and had to use the service elevators that were even slower. The Friday evening that we returned to our room we wanted to shower before bed but unfortunately there was no hot water at 10 pm. I called the front desk and they said they had someone coming to work on it and would credit us Hilton Honors points. Ok no big deal will just shower in the morning. Well wake up that morning and surprise still no hot water. I again called the front desk and was told that it had been fixed and just needed to let the water run for 5-10 minutes. When I called I had already left it running for 20 minutes. I let the front desk know I had been letting it run and was told I'm sorry but should be working. This was the morning of my cousin's wedding and had to take a cold shower and a very quick wash down of my 3 year old. I asked if we could leave the hotel and check in somewhere else and cancel the rest of the nights but because I had pre-paid nothing could be done. I asked to speak with a manager and was told none work on the weekends, but my name would be added to the list of of the guests for the HH points. Then afterwards never received my points and when I called and left a message for the manager never received a call back. Needless to say the stay was not enjoyable when it should have been. Definitely not what I expect from a Hilton hotel. The positive was the location was good and the breakfast convenient.

Red Roof Inn Laredo

We checked out of a similarly priced property not so far away and headed to Red Roof. I now see some bad reviews and yet, that was not our experience. Let me go on. The wifi was really the issue and there is a huge sign as you enter that Wifi is Free (and obviously a priority for Red Roof.) We wanted a room that was convenient, so we could keep our truck loaded with shopping stuff and get an early check out to get back to Mexico the next day. The Room, #121, I think was perfect for that. We were on the back end of the property and perhaps that meant lower traffic noises. Anyway that was not an issue for us. The room was good, the desk are was a little small yet sufficient and the TV worked fine, so I got to see Monday Night Football and work on my computer, which is what I wanted. The bathroom was nice and clean and the shower was 2 notches better than the unnamed competitor that we left to come to Red Roof. I had to call back and Idalia, the GM was wonderful and honestly shared that she is new and I could tell she had a real nature to serve others. We will definitely stay there next time in Laredo. The location is perfect-especially if you want to walk to a restaurant or nearby business. It is also near the shopping and very close and convenient to the Bridge to go to Mexico. A perfect stop in case, like us, you want to get an early start for driving IN Mexico and certainly the same if going the other way, into the US further. Thanks Red Roof!

The Rialto Hotel

Stayed at this hotel this last weekend. It was fine and in my opinion a better option than the very expensive hotel chains. Rooms are spartan, but were very clean, and the property is well maintained and clean. The rooms are old offices that were turned into hotel rooms. The furnishings are a little dated and the rooms don't have the typical amenities such as a coffee maker, microwave, fridge and such but the beds and linens were were fine. This is an interesting place to stay with some history and such. The highlight of the place is the breakfast tacos, they were excellent, the tortillas top notch and there are pastries and fruit available with coffee and such in the mornings. Very good tacos. There is friendly and personalized service at the hotel, the manager was very welcoming. I enjoyed the stay here and would stay here again. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the rooms are a little dated and furnishings spartan.
