The Falcondale at Lampeter ★★★★

📍 Falcondale Drive, Lampeter

"This was a top class hotel and restaurant, we visited a couple of years ago and it was excellent. Our recent visit was not so good. Quite a catalogue of complaints. Fist the reception area when we arrived smelt strongly of stale cigarette smoke. then the bar, it took ages to get served despite there being only one person in front of me, no draught beer and the bottled beer was only just cold, well not warm. The dinner was a disaster, A small and uninspired menu, I had Falcondale chicken, but it took 50 minutes from finishing the starter to the arrival of the main course. Another table had a 70 minute wait before any food arrived. The chicken was tasteless and the skin was white, not browned at all. the wild mushroom sauce was 50% ordinary mushrooms and 50% the little thin stick like mushrooms, cultivated, not wild. Get some dried Porcini mushroom.. The sauce was dark brown and very salty and tasted like old fashioned Bisto. The mash had some lumps in it. Hardly difficult to prepare and certainly not a gourmet meal. We did not bother with a desert, just had coffee and another couple who we were having coffee with had milk and the milk had gone off. We discovered that new owners had taken over a few months earlier, they were not in evidence, in fact there did not seem to be any one in charge and it was severely understaffed. I would not recommend this hotel/restaurant and will not be returning any time soon"

"Was a wonderful place me and my wife have never been clamping before so was a new experience for us so did not know what to expect. When we first arrived we were welcomed by Chris and Carol was a lovely warm welcoming. They showed us to the accomodation we were in the meadow view was a stunning view over looking the surrounding area which was breathtaking. Then we went into the hut picture did not do it justice the detail was lovely the lights and the furniture and all the little things like the puzzle and books there was a lot of character and thought had gone into everything . Also everything was so clean and well maintained. After we unpacked we went into the hot tub that was warm on arrival and watched the sun go down it was magical. Had a shower after that there was plenty of pressure in shower and was enough heat . Then spent the rest of the night cuddled up by the fire . Bed was comfortable and the heat from the log burner kept us warm though the night had 3 amazing nights here . Highly recommend originally went to get away from the stress from work and went away feeling relaxed. Thanks once again Carol and Chris was lovely meeting you both and can't wait to return"

The Falcondale at Lampeter ★★★★
"I am so disappointed to be writing this, but the hotel has lost its warming atmosphere (the day I visited anyway) I was meeting family for coffee on the terrace, upon entering the reception the doors where shut making the hotel seem closed off and unwelcoming. The doors always used to be open where you could be seen and greeted warmly by staff. As I entered the bar area the first thing my eye caught was at 10am the bar area shutters where still down and lights off, rather uninviting. The carpet also in the area had definitely not been hoovered for a couple days, crumbs, mud and hair where present and looked messy. Lovely waitress came out to the terrace and said when ready to order come to the bar, so i did, the bar was still closed at 10.30 and no one in sight so went to the front desk, I could hear staff talking behind the closed doors to the office. Rang bell twice before anyone came (despite knowing they were right there), once a staff member (older blond lady) came out I asked to order and she said she will send someone over to take our order then shut the doors again... had our order taken by a lovely lady with blue hair, once orders arrived they where lovely, I then wanted to pay 11.30am and the bar area was still shut up and still no lighting. Found a waitress and paid for our coffees, I paid at the side of a shut up bar with no lights on, definitely not the welcoming atmosphere this place used to have in previous years. No fault to the staff but definitely a lack of attention to detail and managerial supervison. Due to all this I decided we weren't coming back for dinner as originally planned by family and went to the Ty Glyn instead, which is a shame for yourselves as I have happily eaten and supported there in the past. I hope these oversight are looked into and sorted."
