In the middle of a ten day holiday at this hotel. It is a lovely, clean, small and friendly hotel in an excellent central location. Our self-catering room with balcony is huge, with all you need to make yourself comfortable for a short or long stay. There is a very reasonably priced little supermarket next door .The beds are perfect for a good nights sleep and it's lovely to have a bath aswell as a shower. The rooftop pool area is a bonus and kept very clean. The manager is very friendly and has a great sense of humour. We are here during an unexpected heatwave and having to sleep with the windows and doors open ( fans are available) and yes there is traffic noise but I was aware that I was booking a central city location and have earplugs. If I wanted peace and quiet I would have booked a rural hotel. Having said that the hotel itself is very quiet, we can't hear other guests/staff coming and going. Overall we are glad we chose this hotel for our first trip to Funchal .
Royal Savoy - Ocean Resort - Savoy Signature

Everything went very well. The only bad feedback would be targeted to the Restaurant Galaxia. We know that it is not part of The Royal Savoy, but the restaurant did not require the feedback at all. I hope you can give this feedback to them. Friday 19.7. tested a 13-course menu for the whole family at Savoy Palace's Galax. They brought and presented the food, even though half of the table party was in the toilet - this happened with two dishes. Napkins were not picked up from the ground when another girl dropped them while going to the bathroom, and there was no other thoughtfulness related to napkins. What would you have expected in a place of this level? You had to ask for water separately several times when they were at a different table. We asked for a paper menu to take with us, but it didn't show up until we asked, even though they promised. The sommelier said that each dish comes with wine, but it didn't, and when the second dessert was cheese, there was no wine for it. I asked the sommelier to the table, and the answer was that the shift had ended and would come tomorrow. Finally, we received the bill, but the Petit fours were not served regardless of the menu (it was separately mentioned in the menu). They came after paying the bill, apologizing, then started telling us they were closing and moved us to the terrace. The wine pairings were my mistake, although the sommelier's presentation was so challenging that you should have carefully read the wine list and chosen the most valuable white and red wine bottle for that price.
Pestana Casino Park Hotel & Casino

Very good location, various full breakfasts, staff available. The weak point is that there are only six places where you can park, but often you already have it. The possibility to park in the casino's parking lot is up to € 6.30 throughout the day. Another weak point of the soundproofing of the room is the sound of TV, doors in the adjacent room. Sufficient hotel, pleasant pool, jacuzzi hammam and small gym for 3/4 day!

Hotel facilities and equipment, although old, but also basically meet the needs of use, breakfast is very rich, the room given by the front desk should be considered the largest of the same type, but the floor is too low, the parking lot is noisy, the fly in the ointment is less front desk staff Smile, communication is frosty, resort hotels should not be like this. There is also a small episode at check-in. The front desk must ask me to send the order to the hotel's mailbox, and she has my order number in hand. Is it ridiculous!

Unbeatable location in old town Funchal, within easy walk to the cathedral area, harbour, market and cable car station. Good connections with city & island-wide buses too. I had a Superior room with great views, though barking dogs were heard occasionally at night. Breakfast had one of the best fruit buffet spreads I've seen in a hotel and good continental selection. Pool was not crowded though small, rooftop bar was pricey. Front desk reception on arrival seemed a little cold but they proved to be very helpful for the rest of the stay, with restaurant and transport recommendations. In all, a high standard hotel, though hotel prices in Madeira generally are pushing the limits on value.
