"Don't come if your family expect dinner - Ciocco may send you on a 45 mins drive! First the Positive : Great location Good modern rooms with excellent views Clean Negative: Service Checked in at 17.15 staff recommend to book in hotel restaurant (hotel 20 mins from nearest external restaurant) Booked 30 mins later for 21.00 and was told all is full despite hotel is far from full but due to non hotel bookings. Why do we book a remote hotel with restaurant to drive 45 mins to have Dinner ??? Zero will to accommodate dinner for ONE person! After dinner beware of The 4 km windy private mountain road to the Il Ciocco hotel with no lights, reflex markers or road markings and even no safety road defense in places. Check out time at 10 AM !! Better not sleep in while on holiday as you will be kicked out of bed!! Does not comply with 3 star conditions: No fridge in room but in public entry, No room phone, No desk Bathroom window straight to exterior passage with no curtain or frosted glass so nice sharing. When you book a MTB for 2 days no bike on the second day and no apologies for mistake. IN SHORT NICE FACILITIES BUT WHAT IS THAT WORTH IF YOU CANT HAVE DINNER BUT LOTS OF POOR SERVICE."

"The hotel is located near Barga in Garfagnana, a very beautiful and less crowded part of Tuscany. The surroundings are truly stunning. The restaurants (outside the hotel) are great. However, the hotel itself was somewhat underwhelming. The rooms felt rather small. The outdoor pool is lovely but opens a bit late in the day. Unfortunately, the spa was quite disappointing. On top of the room rate, there’s a resort fee charged even if you don’t use the spa facilities. Understood that it is a resort but the total charge didn't feel justified. Overall, the hotel services fell short of expectations, and the front desk staff were not very helpful (for example when asked to book a restaurant). To conclude, there is room for improvement in such a nice setting!"

"The building and grounds are historic and beautiful. The service is excellent with the hotel staff looking to be as helpful as possible. The breakfast was what you would expect at a good Italian venue. Our room had an AC which is a must in August weather. We also got some beautiful views of the mountains from our windows. The hotel is not too far from some great hikes if you like being outdoors (about 25-35 min drive away) and is also walking distance from the main restaurant area. While we had a pleasant stay, we were surprised at how dated our room, furnishings and bathroom were. The bed was also hard. We also would have appreciated a heads up in advance that there would be a jazz concert on the grounds the night we arrived as we were quite exhausted from the trip only to find out we would be going to bed as early as we would have liked (to note the concert was free for guests so def a perk if you aren't tired and look fwd to some fun entertainment)."

"My husband, daughter and myself were visiting the area in Italy. Our friend recommended Rita's cooking class. We had one of the best experiences of our trip! Rita was welcoming , fun, and knowledgeable. After the class we shared the DELICIOUS meal we had prepared with the guests that were staying at her B and B. We enjoyed meeting new people , sharing a meal and the surprise ending topping off the day with karaoke! So much fun! Thank you Rita"

"The location is extremely beautiful, with vast panoramic views, at the time of our visit early May 2026, distant snow topped ranges were visible. A €20 taxis ride to Barga, sees you at the local station for trip to Pisa and Lucca around 45mins away. For a few euros rather than €100 for a taxi and you get to see more countryside. We booked an accessible room as I use a wheelchair, unfortunately on one day the service lift was broken and the smaller lift are tiny. Had to fold my chair ( then only just big enough.) The room is adequate with small folding screen cubicle in shower. It's supposed to be four and a half star rating, I personally think that's stretching it. I think the staff make up most of those awarded. The reception staff are without question exceptional, as are the waiting and porter staff, John in particular. For a nearly 5 star rating, parts are worn and tired. Backs of dining chairs are rubbed and scuffed, cutlery is very worn, at breakfast on a few days there were no china cups but paper cups only, cutlery wasn't sharp, you couldn't cut a peach at breakfast, we had half board the food was OK but lacked vegetables. It's a Marriot hotel, and one of the American bosses was there at the time of our visit, they were polishing coal as they used to say. But it is tired. Worth the money? Beware all the extras. Would I stay again, I don't think so. We were only on a short break (4 days)"

"We stayed sadly for 1 night only due to time constraints ! The staff are welcoming, friendly and highy efficient. The building is very well presented and is very well maintained. A stunning Victorian Style Tuscan Villa, the hotel rooms are set on 2 upper sprawling floors. lovely rooms, immaculately turned out with impressive landing areas which you can relax and use. An outdoor swimming pool in on offer as well. Breakfast is very comprehensive, served by wonderfully cheery ladies. Nothing is too much bother ! Please give it a go, you won't be disappointed !"
