Marsden Viaduct Hotel

Auckland Central|0.48km from Victoria Park Market
The great stuff: the rooms are very spacious, the bed very comfortable, the bathroom had an excellent shower and a generous bath. The soundproofing was excellent - we didn't hear any noise at all either from other guests, slamming doors or plumbing. The room was also very dark with the curtains pulled which meant a great night sleep. I completed check-in online before arriving and the staff at reception were all friendly and helpful. The online booking process was simple and it's made explicitly clear via (several) emails that you are unable to utilise the Sofitel facilities and need to find your own parking. The location is fantastic. Wynyard Quarter is a lovely spot and far enough away from the central Viaduct that you don't get the bar/restaurant/drunk noise but can easily stroll to the Viaduct, Commercial Bay and Britomart venues. The odd bit: It's very obvious that you're the unwelcome intrusion at the Sofitel. Apart from a flag outside saying the Marsden, there is no signage in the lobby confirming you're in the right place. And don't bother asking the staff - the concierge I had the nerve to bother was pretty darn rude, snapping at me to read my email. Well at least then I knew I was in the right place. Seriously, a small sign at the desk at the entrance would really be helpful. You have to be escorted to the Marsden reception because it's on level 3 and you need a lift card to access that. There's also no signage in the lift for the Marsden reception. My only gripe with the room was that there was one plush chair and one desk chair in the room. When the majority of the rooms would have couples it was disappointing we couldn't both sit in comfort without lounging on the bed. There was also no small coffee table so we had to drag one of the bedside tables to where we were sitting beside the open patio doors. We didn't use the wi-fi so I can't comment on that.

Nice clean and comfortable room, reception staff courteous and helpful. Couple of blocks from Skycity, hotel parking limited, suggest you book ahead, able to park on street over the weekend. No breakfast options nearby on the weekend and dinner options limited, but highly recommend the Palm Cafe next door.

We began and ended our stay in New Zealand here. My sister and I had stayed here on our last trip to NZ and had been so comfortable we wanted to do so again. When we arrived in Auckland we were given a nice 2 bedroom suite overlooking the park. I think it must have been a handicapped suite as the bathroom was a wet room, which was a little odd, but we got used to it, otherwise very nice. When we checked in again at the end of our trip, a few days before flying home, we were surprised and delighted to find that we had been upgraded to a 3 bedroom, 2 bath penthouse suite. It was huge, with a great view of downtown Auckland and the Skytower. The rooms are very clean and spacious, the beds comfortable, and the little cafe downstairs quite convenient. Buses for Inner Link stop right outside, and it's about a 15 minute walk downtown. New World supermarket is about 5 minutes away. Tip: if walking downtown, go via Halsey Street down to the harbour, you will avoid the hills.

We had planned a two-day stay but coronavirus lockdown meant we stayed in this wonderful hotel for about a month. The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful during this difficult time, especially Kylie, Salome and Kyle on reception, who were always ready with a smile and helpful advice. Our initial stay was in a studio room, which had a two-ring hob and microwave, as well as a washing machine and dryer, but we moved to a one-bedroom apartment for most of our stay. We were shown several different layouts of the one-bedroom apartments. We had a hob and full oven, as well as a fridge-freezer. The one we chose had a small desk in an alcove at the side of the main sitting area. The bedroom was separated from the main room by a sliding door, and both rooms had their own TV. There were no opening windows, but the air con was effective and very quiet. Our room looked out over Victoria Park and the Sky Tower. There is a New World supermarket about 5 mins' walk away, and it was an easy stroll to the Wynyard Quarter and marina, with lovely walks along the sea front. The centre of Auckland was about 15 mins walk away. We were able to return our hire car to the town office before walking back to the hotel. We loved this place and were made to feel so welcome; we will definitely return.
Sudima Auckland City

In the month of January, myself and my friends stayed at the luxurious Sudima Hotel located in Auckland city. We had a warm welcome by the staff at the reception and each and everyone of them were happy to help in anyway possible. We were shown to our room by a kind hearted staff member on the 6th floor and WOW what an amazing view it had of the harbour bridge along with the city buildings. As for the room, it was very modern and well set up. The bathroom was perfect with ammenities provided. The beds were extra comfortable and the tv had a wide range of movies to select from. Whilst we were enjoying the view from the window, we were surprised with a welcome hamper consisting of vegan friendly snacks, refreshing coconut water along with skincare items such as face masks, shower bombs and sleep balms. This was a very thoughtful surprise and indeed we enjoyed it. We had a free breakfast at the East eats restaurant with a range of food to select from and it was amazing. All the food is vegan friendly and very delicious. The lobby has a lot of seating for anyone to enjoy. The beautiful architecture catches ones eye. Very modernised and unique in its own way. Definitely a place to stay! We would like to say a big Thank you to all the staff that helped us have a wonderful stay at the hotel. We definitely will be back. A highly recommended hotel! - Nazeena and Nisha.

We stayed here for four nights and it was really nice, if you just want a break from a party hostel then it’s the best. The staff are really friendly, the garden is lovely and it’s really clean. Overall I’d give it a 10 out of 10
