I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Auckland City Centre for one night during my solo travels, and I couldn’t have been happier with my choice.
The location is absolutely fantastic—right in the heart of Auckland, making it incredibly convenient to explore the city. Many attractions, restaurants, and shops are just a short walk away, which saved me a lot of time and effort.
What stood out most, however, was the excellent staff. They were not only friendly and professional but went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable. Whether it was check-in, providing local recommendations, or assisting with my queries, they were always helpful and approachable.
The room itself was clean, modern, and well-equipped, offering everything I needed for a comfortable night’s stay. The bed was cozy, and the overall atmosphere made it easy to relax after a day of exploring.
For solo travelers like myself, I highly recommend this hotel for its prime location, attentive staff, and excellent value for money. I’ll definitely consider staying here again on my next visit to Auckland!
Everything about the stay was perfect — except for the very poor Wi-Fi. There’s no kitchen facility, which may be inconvenient for long-term stays, but considering the price and the services provided, it’s still an economical choice for this location.
The hotel’s location is excellent — just steps away from a 24/7 convenience store. However, I strongly advise against shopping there: prices are extremely high. For example, a bottle of water that costs $4.50 NZD at the shop is available for just $0.99 at the local market. The fruit selection there is also disappointing in both quality and value. I wouldn’t recommend relying on that particular store — even though it’s close, there are better and much cheaper options on the opposite side of the street.
As for the hotel itself — you get exactly what you pay for, and I’d happily recommend it to others. In fact, it’s the most budget-friendly accommodation option in this area.
The room was great! 👍 It had a fridge, washing machine, kitchen with pots, bowls 🥣 chopsticks 🥢 and plates 🥏 – very well-equipped and convenient, perfect for families. Since I only stayed one night, it was a bit rushed. Apart from the 10 AM check-out being too early, I couldn't find any other faults. It seems to be run by Indians, but the service was excellent! 👍 They also didn't require the NZD 250 deposit. On the day of check-out, luggage storage was free. I stored my bags from 10 AM until 5 PM when I picked them up. Overall, it was really good! 👍 I'd definitely stay here again if I get the chance. The description was accurate, booking through Ctrip was very convenient, and the location is near the Sky Tower.

I had a great one-night stay at Lylo. Comfortable and affordable private room with private bathroom, my room had a window. Check in and check out went smooth, there's a nice restaurant/bar in the hostel, and the location is good to walk around the downtown, quite close to the bus stop to the airport as well.
The room was fairly clean, although a bit dusty (quick fix by opening the window to let the air circulate). The location is fantastic, being near Karangahape Road, meaning you can get to either downtown or Ponsonby on foot within 20 minutes. Not sure what amenities they have as I did not look around but the building looked fairly new and trendy.
The location is very good, just cross the street (5 mins walk) reach bus terminal for airport. The size of the room is big. But the counter service is not 24/7, found inconvenience if check-in after the service hour. It was said that the code was sent to me, but I could not receive through SMS when overseas, and the hotel had not sent me any email. Very frustrated when I reached the hotel after a long journey. In addition, I could not find switch for the fan in the bathroom.
The airport is very convenient to the hotel and it is convenient to eat around. The room is also very good, the kitchen is very well equipped. Although it is a business trip this time, it is a good choice to bring family members next time.
We were really fortunate to have gotten a great deal for 2 nights on Trip.com.
On arrival there was more than what was expected once we settled in. The App forgot to mention Dishwasher, Washing Machine and Dryer so prior we were still happy for the price we paid for the accom alone but were smitten and ecstatic to see these included. The Apartment I believe had everything you could possibly need and had been serviced to top notch cleanliness we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights on stay. We would hope in the future we could book this amazing accom if we’re in similar situation
The hotel is just everything you need in Auckland. We booked a one-bedroom suite, with a double bed and a sofa bed that can fit us 3 well. There are enough amenities for travellers abroad from washing/dryer machine, microwave, oven, fridge, stove, kitchenware, dining table. Housekeeping is daily so this helps clear the rubbish in the room much. Staff is helpful and you get to use anytime fitness for free (we didn't use it though).
Walking distance to 24/7 shop, Woolworths, Sky Tower, Les Mills Auckland City, Britomart, University of Auckland.
The only downsides for us are unstable hot shower and air con is a bit stingy. But during our stay it's cold enough that we don't need Aircon.
We'll definitely come back here if we travel to Auckland.

Valet Service: Excellent in every way.
Concierge: thorough and thoughtful. Made moving from car, to book-in area to the room very simple.
Booking In: polite, efficient, friendly.
Room itself: magnificent!! View: Awesome!
Overall: Staying at SkyCity made our Ak visit stress-less and easy. I’ll be doing this all again, hopefully it will be very soon!! Thank you to all. 😊
CChin MengI am travelling with family with kids and elderly. The grand is probably the best central location that you can find in Auckland if you are taking public transport. The pickup and dropoff for Skybus to Auckland airport is a 5 min walk away. The surrounding has plenty of restaurants including japanese & Chinese food. Facilities wise it has a gym and a heated swimming pool which the kids enjoy. Room is clean & spacious. Hotel price wise is on a high but weighing all the plus points, I will book it again for all the reasons above.
GGuest UserThe view from the balcony is amazing. You can see the sunrise from the balcony in the morning. The view from the breakfast room is also great.
It was far beyond my expectations, and the service was also very good. The staff helped with parking.
I will stay here again next time!!!
MM0020****This room can only be described as huge. It has a large living room and a large 180-degree balcony. It has a washing machine and a dryer. It is perfect for the last night before leaving New Zealand. DFS is downstairs. Shopping is very convenient. You need to verify your identity when entering and exiting the garage. It is absolutely safe.
CCHANG CHENHUI1. The service quality is very good,
2. The accommodation environment is also very good.
3. Friendly attitude of service staff
4. There is a comfortable bed and it is very comfortable to sleep on.
5. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and induction cooker, making it convenient for you to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner.
6. The transportation is convenient. It only takes 5 minutes to walk to the landmark Sky Tower and 10 minutes to the supermarket. It is also very convenient to take the bus.
AAnonymous UserMy second time staying in this hotel. The room was huge, with all necessary facilities in good condition. The fridge, microwave and electric kettle are quite handy. The location is very convenient, both for sightseeing and for getting to and from the airport. The largest and cheapest supermarket in the area (Woolworths) is also just a few hundred meters away. The only issue was a bit of noise from the traffic outside, but not too bad. Overall, great value for money.
CCass&WLIt is near the CBD area, it was an old hotel and I got a very old room with renovations ongoing besides it. The hotel was quite full but they managed to change to a much smaller room without renovations noises. My friend book the same type of room but was luckily to get a better room at the newer tower. There wasn’t any option to choose when booking so didn’t realise we are booking an old room at the old tower. The service at the reception was still good and they tried to change to a bigger room for me which I had actually booked but since it was still an old room, I was too tired to change again. Forgot to take actual photos of it as initially I wasn’t thinking of reviewing it since it wasn’t so ideal.
GGuest UserExcellent service from nearly all staff I encountered over my time there. Room was superb for me, bed comfy, great air conditioning and simple amenities. Breakfast at the Nook was great. Parking, though off site, is very close and covered. Will definitely recommend and visit again for such a handy city location.
GGuest UserThe breakfast is fantastic, parking is a little troublesome but understandable as it’s located in CBD. Hotel provides valet parking which is convenient for us. Great decorations and service provided.
