Marsden Viaduct Hotel

Auckland|0.65km from Halsey Street Wharf
The great stuff: the rooms are very spacious, the bed very comfortable, the bathroom had an excellent shower and a generous bath. The soundproofing was excellent - we didn't hear any noise at all either from other guests, slamming doors or plumbing. The room was also very dark with the curtains pulled which meant a great night sleep. I completed check-in online before arriving and the staff at reception were all friendly and helpful. The online booking process was simple and it's made explicitly clear via (several) emails that you are unable to utilise the Sofitel facilities and need to find your own parking. The location is fantastic. Wynyard Quarter is a lovely spot and far enough away from the central Viaduct that you don't get the bar/restaurant/drunk noise but can easily stroll to the Viaduct, Commercial Bay and Britomart venues. The odd bit: It's very obvious that you're the unwelcome intrusion at the Sofitel. Apart from a flag outside saying the Marsden, there is no signage in the lobby confirming you're in the right place. And don't bother asking the staff - the concierge I had the nerve to bother was pretty darn rude, snapping at me to read my email. Well at least then I knew I was in the right place. Seriously, a small sign at the desk at the entrance would really be helpful. You have to be escorted to the Marsden reception because it's on level 3 and you need a lift card to access that. There's also no signage in the lift for the Marsden reception. My only gripe with the room was that there was one plush chair and one desk chair in the room. When the majority of the rooms would have couples it was disappointing we couldn't both sit in comfort without lounging on the bed. There was also no small coffee table so we had to drag one of the bedside tables to where we were sitting beside the open patio doors. We didn't use the wi-fi so I can't comment on that.

From the beautiful lobby, minimalist architecture, helpful and friendly staff, 5 star room - the quality and experience is second to none. Highly recommend this place if you are staying in Auckland. Its in the heart of Wynyard Quarter around great restaurants, the ASB Theatre and vibrant vibes.

Best stay in Auckland for awhile! Super central location, literally a stones throw from the Viaduct and all it’s great spots… but enough removed that it is lovely and peaceful. A really welcoming check in experience and a great room - with opening windows! Really comfortable bed and furnishings and a fantastically clever bathroom configuration. All the bits and pieces and luxuries in a wonderful modernist way . Nice touches like smart lights and motion sensor lights under the bedsides if you get up in the night. Awesome shower water pressure!!!! Really well done eggs and bacon at the Pantry…small but comprehensive menu. Really, really recommend! It will be my new go to! I

Harbor sea view➕Ship view room, one step away from the sea, there are many restaurants nearby, one has delicious seafood, and you can go shopping within walking distance. The hotel room is relatively comfortable. Warm reminder: be sure to wear earplugs. Cruise ships dock at the pier every day, parked right next to the balcony of your room, blaring horns, getting on and off the ship, and replenishing supplies, which is a bit noisy.

We booked this some months ago in anticipation of the Americas cup. With the Covid delays we ended up arriving the day after Auckland went into level one. Nothing could prepare us for the gorgeousness of this apartment and the view was simply incredible. We have worked really hard all summer and had splashed out on a big break and nothing, and I mean nothing disappointed. Graham could not have been more helpful and the views from our apartment were Simply the Best. We were able to invite our friends around to watch the races and enjoy easy walks to and from the viaduct. We loved it so much we stayed an extra night which was a very simple process and much appreciated. We will definitely come and stay next time we are in Auckland. This is the place to be. Comfortable bed, excellent kitchen facilities Thank you
