Exercise
Gravity-defying strength. Impressive skills. Bodyweight mastery.Sounds cool, but where do you get started? You're in the right place - we love introducing people into the world of calisthenics and would be happy to help get you going with our free taster session. What is Calisthenics in a nutshell? In short, calisthenics is a combination of bodyweight exercise such as: PullupsDipsRowsPushupsLeg raises... and gymnastics strength skills like: HandstandsMuscle-upsHuman flagLeversPlancheYou can start working towards all of this and more; we're only just scratching the surface of what calisthenics has to offer, but you'll have to come and see for yourself! Whether you're sold on the impressive skills, simply wish to build some functional strength, or just want to give calisthenics a try, our taster session is a great place to start. I highly recommend Tom and Emma's classes to anyone who wants to work on strength and calisthenics. I didn't have an athletic background and initially thought I wouldn't be able to build strength or calisthenics skills. Tom and Emma are both extremely knowledgeable, and have given me really comprehensive advice. That combined with their encouragement has got me from struggling to hang on a bar to full pull-ups which was hugely satisfying for me.Henrietta Klein ★★★★★ During our 1 hour taster session, you will practice:Key beginner calisthenics skills We will help you to explore movement, coordination and stability by introducing you to the gymnastics rings along with some basic inversion drills (upside down stuff!) on the floor. Fundamental bodyweight exercises We will show you how to build functional, powerful strength that will set you up for success in calisthenics and, in the long term, reward you with incredible health benefits. Conditioning drills We will also include strengthening for some smaller areas of the body that are often overlooked but are equally as important to work on, both for calisthenics purposes and your overall health. Targeted stretching We will finish off by stretching common areas of stiffness which, when practiced regularly, will help to improve your movement and avoid pain or injury. Who is it for?Our taster session is designed for beginners, whether you're an absolute beginner who has never tried calisthenics before, or you've given it a go but aren't well practiced. Everything we work on during the session can be adapted to your ability and fitness level. Please note: our taster sessions are only for those who've not worked with us before. If you already have, please allow others the opportunity to join our taster instead, or better yet recommend it to someone you know! Where is it?This taster session will take place at Wild Park Calisthenics Gym, a well equipped outdoor gym on the outskirts of Brighton towards Stanmer Park. Free car parking is available at Wild Park main entrance. Make sure to search 'Wild Park Calisthenics Park' on Google Maps otherwise you'll go to the wrong place! Please note: the Wild Park toilets are often closed so there is usually no access to toilets or water! Who are we?We're Tom and Emma, the couple behind Calisthenics Brighton and huge enthuesiasts for calisthenics, movement and fitness. We offer calisthenics classes and coaching in Brighton, both indoors and outdoors with our main location at FMG Gym in the North Laines. Our mission is to build a calisthenics community accessible to anybody, working together and encouraging each other towards quality movement and inspiring feats of strength alike in a fun, positive environment. You can find our more about us on our website, or see us in action on our Instagram. Coaching was simply the best I have experienced. Tom and Emma are incredibly knowledgeable, experienced and supportive. I always felt safe knowing I am getting the best possible advice and guidance that I can trust. The classes were really well structured, professionally led, and always fun and enjoyable. A truly inclusive space. No matter if beginner or advanced – everyone’s unique abilities were acknowledged, whilst also challenged just the right amount. I left every class feeling like a better and stronger version of myself. Long story short, I couldn’t recommend enough – and based on my own experience, I'm confident that wherever you are on your calisthenics/handstands/fitness journey, joining this community is bound to take you further than you ever imagined possible.Triin Schneider ★★★★★ Information Source: Calisthenics Brighton | eventbrite

We received fantastic feedback, with participants highlighting the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, seek advice, and explore solutions to the urgent issues they face. The sessions are designed for you and led by you, so we are seeking your input on discussion topics. Last year, we delved into subjects such as the role of art, survival strategies, funding, project development, publishing, exhibition-making, and collective practice. This year, we’re also introducing a new group discussion, where all participants will come together to share their insights. In advance of the event, we invite you to share 1-3 urgent issues facing artists, photographers, creatives and cultural workers today, which we’ll use as a starting point for this and future roundtables and open discussions. The most EXPERIMENTAL one day Large Abstract Painting workshop in Brighton | Lawrence Art Studio

Oct 26, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
Brighton
Arts
Painting
This isn’t a typical painting adult art class in Brighton. This isn’t a “paint by numbers” class or “copy how I paint” approach. In this workshop we will do things differently: The main tool we will be using is not the brush. It’s our mind - free from limitations. We will paint intuitively! Spontaneously to the music, allowing the paint to evolve and reveal itself freely into an explosion of colours, patterns, marks, shapes, texture on the canvas. We will paint big! Big brush movements, a bold colour pallet and even the fingers. The intention is to let go of any expectations. We will get messy! This is not about making pretty things. It’s rare opportunity to let go of perfectionism and experiment with a wide range of art materials (acrylic, watercolours, pastels, chalk etc) to free our inner artist and find our creative voice in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We will get creative! Art has no limitations, we use every day tools: window squeegee, credit card, bubble wrap, fork, scraper, feather, chopstick, ANYTHING to get our imagination going! Suddenly the concept of “painting” expands! It’s a painting wonderland full of possibilities. We will free ourselves from limiting beliefs! This dynamic and creative free-flow painting style will move us through past fears, creative blocks and self-doubt into joy and freedom! We will express ourselves! By opening our mind and listening to our heart, we can express our soul without boundaries or judgments. While experimenting with painting, we will build a relationship with who we are, reconnect to our inner child and fully express ourselves including the wisdom that is forever inside us. There is such freedom and joy in this! Who is this class for? This is a safe space for anyone! Even those who think they aren’t creative or can’t paint or draw. Also, this is a great opportunity for creative types who haven’t picked up a paintbrush in a while but are longing to express themselves through art. We can play and feel like a kid again without worrying about the end result. Nobody will judge what we create together. We are all on a journey to find our inner artist. The people who come to this class are from all walks of life: freelancers, entrepreneurs, website designers, yoga teachers, success coaches, parents….whatever! This could be fun and creative way to celebrate your birthday, anniversary or any other occasion (corporate team building) in Brighton, perfect Xmas gift too. What to expect on the day? Through fun, guided group and individual exercises we’ll explore wide range of art materials, experiment with an unconventional tools and try many abstract painting techniques including layering, mark making, texture. After a delicious lunch together, you will have time to develop your own intuitive painting on large canvas which you will take home with you at the end of the workshop. You're welcomed to bring your own drinks or snacks. Sports & Fitness
WHY SWIMMING So many fats love to swim but don’t always feel like it’s something they can participate in in the freeing way they should be able to. Here at Fat Club we LOVE swimming and we LOVE hanging out with fat people so, this was a no brainer for us. WHAT TO EXPECT Someone from Fat Club will be on hand to greet you and answer your questions. Please show your ticket to get access.Sessions are 45 mins only. Please turn up on time to make the most of the swimming and please leave the pool with plenty of time to get changed and leave the premises before our booking ends. You can then expect 45 mins where you can swim and splash about to your heart's content. All swimmers must abide by the swimming pool rules.WHO CAN COME This is a FAT ONLY SPACE*. We wanted to use this funding to make sure that fat people can have fun and feel the benefit of fat only spaces. We have complied access info in this doc, if you have any questions, please let us know. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uHK8HdvFqKzI7IIuNjKkHk7UnnL6S2wDmgHrwWGGETg/edit?usp=sharing For anyone that attends, we expect that you behave in line with our community guidelines: Fat Club is for people who identify as Fat - what counts as fat varies from culture to culture, meaning that different sized people may have similar experiences. However, we remind everyone that the experience of weight stigma increases with size and that larger fats may have experiences of oppression that differ from those in bodies closer to the social normsBe aware of your privilege - Try to understand how other experiences my differ from yours. For instance, smaller fat people should be aware of the way their experiences differ from larger fat people and consider their relative privilege in conversations and decision makingNo diet or intentional weight loss talk - We understand that you may choose to lose weight, however, you must not speak about dieting or intentional weight loss in Fat Club spaces. There may be occasions where people need to discuss feelings about unintentional weight loss, and in these circumstances the community will make a decision about how and where that might be heldNo numbers - weights and measurements, even where not discussed in a weight-loss context can be difficult for other people in the group. Clothe sizes are OK where the context is neutral, like asking for recommendations or at clothes swaps. Not everyone can, will, or wants to ‘love themselves’ or be ‘beautiful’ - please try to remember that not everyone values or welcomes appearance based compliments: ask permission first.Try your best not to f*ck other people up - we are all flawed, and we are learning. We accept that people will make mistakes. By trying to not f*ck each other up and keeping to the community expectations, we hope to minimise harm to each other. We expect people who f*ck up to listen to feedback.*Anyone who is needed to support a Fat person’s access to this event is welcome. We just ask that they understand they are here to support Fat access, not to participate and to be aware that this is a Fat First Space. WHO ARE FAT CLUB? Fat Club Brighton is a community of fats who are interested in the joy and liberation of fat people. We run free or low cost events for fats and friends of fats across Brighton and Hove. To learn more about us, visit our instagram page or talk to one of us at an event. Information Source: Fat BTN | eventbrite
