THE ATOMIC HUMAN: Understanding Ourselves in the Age of AI | The Grand Central, Brighton
Jul 23, 2025 (UTC+1)
Brighton and Hove
Our fascination with AI stems from the perceived uniqueness of human intelligence. We believe it's what differentiates us. Fears of AI not only concern how it invades our digital lives, but also the implied threat of an intelligence that displaces us from our position at the centre of the world.
Join
Neil D. Lawrence
as he discusses his latest book,
The Atomic Human
, with Sussex University Professor, Ron Chrisley. Neil will be discussing and contrasting our own intelligence with the capabilities of machine intelligence and reveal the technical origins, capabilities and limitations of AI systems, and how they should be wielded. Not just by the experts, but ordinary people. Either AI is a tool for us, or we become a tool of AI. Understanding this will enable us to choose the future we want.
AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY
Neil D. Lawrence
is the inaugural DeepMind Professor of Machine Learning at the
University of Cambridge
, senior AI fellow at the
Alan Turing Institute

CHAIR BIOGRAPHY

Choral Workshop: Perfect, Powerful Palestrina! | Saint Paul’s Parish Church
Jul 26, 2025 (UTC+1)
Brighton and Hove
Perfect, Powerful Palestrina!
Join us
for an afternoon and evening singing some extraordinarily beautiful
Renaissance polyphony
, written by the man who pretty much invented the style!
Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina was born
500 years
ago this year. What better opportunity to spend some time getting to kow the surprising breadth of his style?
Palestrina is of course well known for pieces such as
Tu es petrus, Sicut cervus,
and his sublime
Missa Brevis
, but there is much more to discover. We'll look into his
lesser-known settings
of
poetry
by Petrach, and some of his settings from the biblical Song of Songs in which Palestrina takes great
pleasure
in setting that extraordinary love poetry!
From miniatures (a ravishing setting of
Ave Maria)
to more substantial pieces (we'll have a look at his
Stabat mater
if time allows), his output is much more varied that we might think, yet all of it contains that characteristic 'Palestrina Perfection' that was unrivalled until the likes of Bach and Mozart later had a go...
All voices are welcome to this
unaccompanied workshop
, led by renowned
Renaissance specialist
Greg Skidmore.
For full registration information, please visit:
https://www.brightonconsort.org.uk/perfect-powerful-palestrina-workshop
Finally - once you've bought your ticket, please keep an eye out for a follow up email from Eventbrite asking a coule of registratio details such as voice type!

Speed Dating in Brighton (Age Range: 30-45) *Meet Up to 15 Dates* | The Park View
Aug 7, 2025 (UTC+1)
Brighton and Hove
"So, what is speed dating?"
Quite simply....
You'll get the chance to
meet up to 15 dates,
each lasting around
five minutes,
plenty of time to see if
there's a spark.
Ladies stay at the same table and gentlemen rotate.
Working, successful professionals,
make up the majority of our attendees. People who are
sick of swiping
and looking for something
long term.
And you will be able to enjoy the event in a
friendly and safe atmosphere,
knowing that everyone there is signed up is
single!
The following day you'll be able to
enter your matches
and hopefully
arrange date #2
via our secure messaging service.
Please remember to enter your matches before 4pm as this is when the matching system closes.
And yes…
While it may seem like a
far cry away
right now…
There are
hundreds of thousands of working professionals
in Brighton, floating in the same boat as you.
They are tired of
going out looking
for love.
They are sick of swiping tediously on
dating apps.
They just want to meet someone
special.
How
hard
can that be right?
Well it's time for a reality check...
Living in a city like
Brighton
, where we all have
busy lives,
and an abundance of options makes dating
actually
very difficult.
The odds of finding Mr or Mrs Right are so much
higher when you attend an event
where the people in attendance are all looking for the same thing as you!
Speed Dating Events Are More Popular Than Ever In Brighton
But aren't dating events
weird
and
creepy
and the type of people who attend would never be your type?
Well…
It's a
misconception
that has completely changed.
Speed dating events are more popular than ever as more and more people are turning to them as an
antidote
to
dating online
.
"So, what happens at our events?"
Quite simply:
No
event is the same.
Each event has
different attendees
.
Everyone has signed up officially.
And guess
what?
The odds of you finding someone
goes way up!
And our fantastic hosts will be on hand to make introductions throughout the night.
Register for our next event now! Places are limited and we do sell out the majority of our events so book now to avoid disappointment.
We have years of experience organizing dating events and matching couples. It's what we are most passionate about.
And we are so confident you will find at least
one person
you would want to see again that if you don't, your next event is
completely free!
So why not
ditch your online dating game
and put yourself out there in a
real-life
dating event hosted by us.
Important Information
On the day of the event, please look out for an email from True Dating, as it will have the details of your account. You'll need this to enter your matches the following day.
The event will start at 7.30pm. We have an area reserved inside, please ask for True Dating on your arrival and you will be directed to our reserved area.
Venue Closes at 1am.
Stop Swiping. Start Dating.

The Independent Horror Society has been dedicated to supporting grassroots horror cinema for over 10 years, and we're so proud to have 2,100+ committed horror fans and filmmakers in our ranks.
We have launched the Indie Film Showcase to do what we love best -- bringing incredible short genre films from hugely talented filmmakers, to the wonderful UK horror community. And in June we hosted a brand-new line up of short films in London, showcasing a superb range of projects from all over the globe.
But with so much passion and hard work having gone into each and every film on the line up, we want as many folk as possible to see them. Which is why we're delighted to be able to take them out on the road -- and our next stop will be the glorious city of Brighton!
What's more, 20% of all profit made on ticket sales will go straight into our
Creators Fund

Make Me A Pizza
USA, Dir: Talia Shea Levin
