In response to your requests, the MIAH Islamic Arts & Heritage Gallery is delighted to offer you a six-part workshop series on Arabic Calligraphy. Each session will be run by Ustadh Ahmad Mohamad, a traditionally trained calligrapher and a member of the Egyptian General Association of Calligraphers. The sessions comprise a graded learning series introducing students to Arabic calligraphy. Over the course, you will learn how to write Arabic letters and words using a calligrapher's pen, focussing on the essential techniques needed to master the basics of Arabic calligraphy. The course includes practice of individual letters, learning about the balance and proportion of letters, applying calligraphy to different surfaces (such as canvas or cloth) and understanding colour combinations. In addition, students will gain an appreciation for the deeper meaning behind the letters and words, helping them connect with the art form on a more profound level.
