If you can never find the perfect mug for your tea or coffee, then make your very own mug at The Art House! During this workshop you will be guided through the process of rolling slabs and pulling handles to build your perfect mug. Decorate this to your heart’s desires and have them fired in our kiln. They will be available to collect three weeks from the end of the session. Who is the workshop for? This course is suitable for adults who are complete beginners or for those who wish to refresh their previous knowledge. You don’t need to feel confident in clay to start this course as all aspects of the medium are covered. Do I need to bring anything? All equipment and tools will be provided for you as well materials to explore all processes. We recommend wearing old clothes or bringing an apron in case you get a bit messy! If you have long hair please tie it back. Tutor Hannah Way is a Wakefield-based ceramicist who specialises in functional homeware pieces, incorporating traditional methods of pottery with a contemporary twist. Trained in several ceramic processes, Hannah moved from south Wales in 2021 to pursue a technician's role and develop an open access ceramics studio at the Art House. Spend a morning learning how to print your very own festive cards to send to friends and family this Christmas. Linocut is a traditional relief printing technique where a print is taken from the surface of a lino block. On this workshop you will learn how to use the tools, equipment and materials to get started in linocut. You’ll carve your own lino, use oil based inks and use our traditional Albion relief printing press to make an edition of unique Christmas cards to send to friends and family. You’ll be guided through the process in a step by step way in our professional print studio. Who is the workshop for? Suitable for adults who are complete beginners in linocut as you’ll be guided through the process with expert guidance. Those with some previous experience may also attend to develop their skills and ideas. Do I need to bring anything? All equipment and tools will be provided. Feel free to bring along images/books for inspiration. We recommend wearing old clothes in case you get a bit inky! Please wear sensible shoes with a covered toe – so no sandals, ballet shoes or high heels in the print studio. Explore weaving and make your own woven squares to use as pot holders or mug coasters on this festive themed weaving workshop. A fun Christmas workshop to enjoy with friends. You will create your own pair of pot holders, or coffee mug rug or plant pot mat, its up to you how you will use your gorgeous weaving. They would make perfect Christmas gifts for loved ones. You will create your own individual outcome as you will design your own pattern and be able to select from a large range of colourful cotton loops to use within your work. There will be lots of inspiration and ideas to help you as well as group demonstrations and one to one support throughout. Who is the workshop for? Ideal for beginners as well as those with some previous textiles or weaving experience. Do I need to bring anything? The looms, additional equipment as well as enough cotton loops to make two bespoke outcomes will be provided for use within the workshop. You will go home with two woven outcomes. Tutor Agnis Smallwood is a Designer, Maker, Researcher, Educator based in Yorkshire, she specialises in woven textiles. She produces her own hand woven products from her studio in Leeds as well as spending much of her time facilitating opportunities for people to explore different textile processes for themselves. Agnis graduated from Cumbria Institute of the Arts in 2009 with a BA in Contemporary Applied Arts. She has since completed her MA in Artist Teacher and Contemporary Practice, in 2017 from Goldsmiths, University of London. With Helen’s guidance you will learn you how to create an even, firm felt, how to join different elements, sculpting with wool and adding different layers of colour. Who is the workshop for? Ideal for adults who are beginners as well as those with some previous feltmaking experience. Do I need to bring anything? All tools and equipment needed will be provided for the session. Tutor Helen Riddle works from her studio at The Art House. Her work combines wet and needle felting with free-motion embroidery, hand stitch and print. Helen was awarded the City and Guilds Medal for Excellence in Constructed Textiles in 2014 and is a qualified teacher, delivering workshops for The Art House, The Royal Horticultural Society and The Hepworth Wakefield. Helen has recently exhibited for Wakefield Art Walk, Leeds Industrial Museum and Anglers Country Park and her work can be seen at events and galleries around the UK. Her recent exhibitions include The Doffer and the Fancy: Re-imagining the Machine, Leeds Industrial Museum, 2019; 10km of Stitch, Wakefield Cathedral July 2021, In the Garden, The Hepworth Wakefield 2022 and A Stitch in Time, Anglers Country Park 2022-2023. You will be guided through the process of cutting, decorating and connecting a variety of shapes out of aluminium, brass and copper and leave with a set of your very own hand-crafted metal decorations for the festive season. For people who never learnt to cycle or those who haven’t been on a bike for years, and want to regain their confidence. Bikes and helmets are available to borrow, and all of the training takes place at traffic-free venues. If you do have your own bike, then you are more than welcome to bring it! Our friendly and qualified instructors will help you with your balance, confidence and cycling skills and have you riding around in no time. Once you have built up your skills on this beginner session you can book on to one of our improver courses. For Sharla... Come Join Us!Hey there! In support of Bryan runnng the Boston Marathon in memory of Sharla grab your friends and lets have a great time indoors! This is an 18+ event As some of you know, Sharla Sieve was essentially my second mother. She unfortunately passed December 7th of 2022 from Stage IV Metastatic Colorectal Cancer and everything I've ever accomplished since that point has been in her honor. I ran my first marathon this past May, and I felt extremely confident after it as I finished in under 3 hours, 30 minutes. During this past summer, my mind shifted to thinking of Sharla and Mass General in hopes of getting accepted to run the Marathon for them at 23 years old. Her youngest daughter, Olivia, who is now a senior at Lynnfield High, where Sharla went to school, created a fundraiser before she passed; the goal of the fundraiser was to help support a new program at MGH to make Hepatic Arterial Infusions available. 2 times a month for the last year before she passed, Sharla had to travel to New York just to get the care she needed. The fundraiser raised over $120,000 as of late October '24. I'm forever grateful for the opportunity to represent Mass General and my second family, the Sieves.
