Coffin Spell Boxes: Rebirth, Release & Renewal Overview: Step into sacred space this October as the veil thins and the energies of release, transformation, and ancestral support grow stronger. In this workshop, we’ll be crafting and empowering coffin-shaped spell boxes—symbolic vessels of both death and rebirth. Each participant will decorate their own wooden coffin box using personal sigils, protective herbs, and intuitive crystal selections, turning the box into a magical container for spells centered on rebirth, new opportunities, protection, and cord cutting. We’ll explore the symbolic nature of the coffin—not as an end, but as a threshold—and work with it to clear energetic clutter, banish stagnant habits, and invite in fresh inspiration. The session culminates in a guided cord cutting ritual, where we’ll ritually sever ties to limiting beliefs, toxic connections, or lingering energies that no longer serve. What’s Included: •A wooden coffin-shaped spell box •Access to a variety of herbs, crystals, charms, and tools for decoration •Instruction on sigil crafting and spell box assembly •A collective cord cutting ritual to clear space for the new •Protective blessing of your completed box What You’ll Walk Away With: •A deeply personal spell box to continue working with through the season •Tools for energetic release and personal renewal •A greater understanding of spellwork for transformation, aligned with the turning of the Wheel Perfect For: •Those seeking to shed the old and step into new cycles •Witches and magical folk attuned to the Samhain season •Anyone craving ritual, depth, and creative magical expression Let us gather in the shadows—not to mourn, but to transform. Spirit Wards & Pumpkin Lore: A Protective Carving Ritual Overview: As the nights grow long and the veil thins, join us for a magical and immersive workshop exploring the ancient lore and protective magic of the pumpkin—a beloved Halloween symbol with deep folkloric roots. We’ll begin by delving into the history of pumpkins in Samhain traditions, tracing their evolution from carved turnips in Celtic lands to modern-day jack-o’-lanterns. Learn about the folk tales, superstitions, and protective symbolism behind these glowing guardians, used to frighten off mischievous spirits and malevolent energies. Then, in sacred space, we’ll each carve our own ritual pumpkin, but with intention beyond decoration. You’ll be guided to infuse your pumpkin with protective herbs, oils, and spellwork, transforming it into a spirit ward for your home or altar. Through focused intention and elemental charging, we’ll breathe magical purpose into our creations. What We’ll Explore: •The folklore and evolution of the jack-o’-lantern •Magical correspondences of pumpkins, gourds, and protective sigils •Use of herbs and oils to empower and anchor energy •Techniques for charging carved objects with spell energy Included in the Workshop: •A locally-sourced pumpkin •A curated selection of protective herbs and oils •Tools for carving and decorating •Guided meditation to imbue your pumpkin with magical intent •A closing ritual to activate your spirit ward Perfect For: •Anyone seeking a deeper connection to Halloween’s magical roots •Witches and folk magic practitioners •Lovers of seasonal crafting with purpose Come carve with us—not just for fun, but for protection, ancestral reverence, and seasonal magic. The programme The Creativity in the Classroom – Art CPD for Schools programme is designed for teachers of all stages of experience and expertise and offers a range of practical CPD workshops led by leading art educators. Each CPD workshop will build your art teaching skills, extend your repertoire of art techniques and grow your subject knowledge to apply and use in the classroom. Guest Artist Series The workshops in the Guest Artist series are designed, devised and led by leading national arts educators for primary school teachers, primary Art Leads and professionals working in schools. These sessions will immerse you in practical, fun, hands-on activity that can be taken straight back to the classroom. Who is this workshop for? Primary teachers. Primary Art Leads. Professionals working in schools What will this workshop involve? Leading arts educationalist and published author Darrell Wakelam will immerse you in an inspiring day of 3D making, exploring art techniques that are affordable, adaptable, and achievable. This practical day offers fun, hands-on professional development about the ideas and practice of 3D making, using cardboard construction methods. You’ll be designing and making your own artworks to learn the techniques of 3D making. You will also be considering how you can introduce and scaffold the learning of your pupils to do the same. Darrell will share examples and reflect with you on how these approaches can be adapted to suit different age-groups and respond to cross curricular themes and topics. What will I learn on the day? On the day you will: Enhance your 3D making skills. Develop new techniques to build on pupils’ collaborative working experiences. Learn creative ways to support pupils to express their ideas and imagination through 3D materials. Take away project ideas that can be embedded within your curriculum. Discover innovative ways to create project themed wall displays. About Darrell Darrell Wakelam has been creating artwork with children for almost 35 years. He focusses on making 3D artwork more accessible and exciting for children, and he has a strong reputation as an innovative and highly skilled workshop facilitator. Darrell originally trained in design and illustration, but working with children reignited his own childhood passion for model making, allowing him to revisit the world of ‘junk sculpture’ and papier maché with the eyes of a designer and teacher. Darrell has provided workshops for countless clients, including many hundreds of schools, museums, theatres, and as a part of large-scale festivals and events. His involvement with projects nationwide has given Darrell the experience of working creatively with children of all ages, and from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, and abilities. Most of Darrell’s artwork consists of 3D models, sculptures, and masks, made predominantly from scrap cardboard and other recycled materials. Over the years he has refined his methods and techniques, becoming more aware of the sustainability of his work, and more mindful of the materials he uses. Darrell has also spent many years sharing his expertise, through training sessions, online tutorials, and more recently, through his highly acclaimed book ‘Art Shaped’.
