An opportunity to stop, breathe and rediscover the peace that lives within us. “When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and our mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment naturally arise from within. This feeling of contentment and well-being helps us to cope the busyness and difficulties of daily life.” (Geshe Kelsang Gyatso) An opportunity to stop, breathe and rediscover the peace that lives within us. In this half-day retreat, we will explore simple and profound meditations on clarity of mind, inspired by the Buddhist tradition of Mahamudra. By observing the mind directly, we gradually silence the mental noise and create space for an experience of lightness, lucidity, and inner contentment. This mental clarity becomes a foundation for cultivating more stable happiness and greater inner freedom. This retreat is ideal for those who want to learn to meditate or deepen their practice, and no previous experience is necessary. Everyone is welcome! The exhibition, co-organized by the National Portrait Gallery and the Harwood Estate Trust, marks the first collaboration between the two institutions. Over fifty works by Beaton will be featured from the National Portrait Gallery's collection, several of which are being shown publicly for the first time. Theatricality is his signature Beaton's photography never content to be merely an observer. He habitually places his subjects within meticulously designed sets—backgrounds of unusual materials, dramatic lighting, props and costumes perfectly suited to the subject's temperament. Each photograph is more like a frozen scene from a play. This aesthetic of "photography as performance" is succinctly expressed in the exhibition's title: Staging Icons—bringing idols onto the stage. The exhibition includes classic portraits of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Fred Astaire, Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, Julie Andrews, and others, almost a comprehensive chronicle of 20th-century figures.

Every step brings care and compassion closer for people when they need us most. Choose your challenge: 10 miles – ideal for those who want a relaxed pace and time to enjoy the views. 18 miles – a rewarding mid-distance route for keen walkers. 25 miles – a challenge for those ready to go the distance. All walk lengths will set off at 7.00am and you can walk at your own pace. Every route is fully supported with marshals, signage and refreshment stops along the way. Shuttle buses are available back to the starting point for mid-length walks. Why take part? Every step you take helps Sue Ryder provide expert care and support for local people at the end of life and those living with grief .
