Even Here, Even Now is a new “manifesto for change” collectively written by artists living in Shetland, Orkney and the Outer Hebrides. It represents the voices of musicians, visual artists, film-makers, theatre-makers and more, setting out the challenges facing island-based artists in Scotland and what needs to change so that creative voices who are a vital part of the national cultural conversation are heard and supported. Good Egg Comedy presents another cracking line up of top Scottish comics at our little magical comedy room. You will see four top comedians, including a headline set from one our favourite comedians on the Scottish comedy scene. The show will be hosted by an experienced, jovial, compere to keep things running smoothly. Our venue is intimate, so only a limited number of tickets are available each show. Deaf art enthusiast Trudi Collier returns to The Hunterian to present her British Sign Language tour of the Hunterian Art Gallery, updated with recently added works. This tour has been developed by Trudi and she delivers it in BSL for BSL users. Visitors should note that there is no simultaneous English translation of the tour. The tour includes works by Chardin, Rembrandt, Rubens, the Glasgow Boys, and Scottish Colourists, as well as leading 20th-century artists, such as Joan Eardley. It features artworks made by women and other artists who have been less well-represented. NEW since last tour – Trudi will also discuss recently added works by Alison Watt and Duncan Shanks. Xiaolu Guo FRSL is a Chinese-born British author, filmmaker and academic. Her writing and films explore migration, alienation, memory, personal journeys, feminism, translation and transnational identities. Her books include the novels: A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers, 20 Fragments of a Ravenous Youth , UFO in Her Eyes , I Am China, A Lover's Discourse , the short story collection, Lovers in the Age of Indifference and the memoirs, Once Upon a Time in the East, Nine Continents: A Memoir in and out of China, Radical and My Battle of Hastings. Guo has directed a dozen films including documentaries and fiction. Her most well-known films include She, a Chinese and We Went to Wonderland. Her novels have been translated into 28 languages. Nine Continents: A Memoir in and out of China won the National Book Critics Circle Award 2017. In 2013, she was named as one of Granta magazine's Best of Young British Novelists, a list drawn up once a decade. She was an inaugural fellow of the Columbia Institute of Ideas and Imagination in Paris, 2018, and a jury member for the Man Booker Prize 2019.
