Dec 14, 2024 (UTC+0)
Brighton
Long Nose Puppets presents SHOE BABY Awarded Best children's show of Brighton Festival 2006 Shoe Baby is a magical puppet show! A fantastical sing-a-long adventure witha baby who takes to the sea, the air, the zoo all in a shoe! Shoe Baby is adapted from the book written by well known author, Joyce Dunbar, published by Walker books. The music is written by talented musician, Tom Gray of the award winning band Gomez. QUOTES: Parents are as transfixed as their children, some of whom are just over a year old. It was not only the most imaginative but the most philosophical piece of theatre I'd seen in ages. Richard Dyball - The Times I can't help but wonder whether Shoe Baby might not turn out to be as resonantand redolent of childhood for this generation of toddlers as the Clangers and Puff the Magic Dragon are for me. It deserves to be. Shella Parkin - BBC Southern Counties Long Nosed Puppets have created wonderful, magical children's theatre at its best. Edinburgh Guide Its a great, glittery adventure- Rating 5/5. Three Weeks There's a home-made charm to Polly Dunbar and Katherine Morton's puppets for this adaptation of Shoe Baby. The Stage Praise be then for the wonderful Shoe Baby puppet show…The music, by Tom Gray of Gomez, was absolutely fantastic and the sets and puppeteering spot on. Rachel Stamp Acoustic | Daltons
Jan 19, 2025 (UTC+0)
Brighton
Bad Luck Live presents.. Rachel Stamp Acoustic live in Brighton for the first time since.. ever? David Ryder Prangley first met Will Crewdson in 1994 after moving from Dinas Powys in South Wales to London in search of musicians to bring to life an imaginary band called RACHEL STAMP. Instantly hitting it off over a shared love of artists such as Redd Kross, The Nymphs, Prince and Warren Zevon and filmmakers such as Lindsay Anderson, Russ Mayer and Kathryn Bigelow, the duo quickly hit the UK music scene (joined by synth player Shaheena Dax and drummer Robin Guy) with their unique and colourful brand of androgynous Glam Punk, releasing the albums HYMNS FOR STRANGE CHILDREN, STAMPAX and OCEANS OF VENUS and securing a following that would see them become the first unsigned band to sell out London’s legendary Astoria Theatre. In 2024 Will and David decided to take things back to their roots and started performing stripped down versions of RACHEL STAMP’s varied catalogue as a duo with David on vocals and acoustic guitar and Will on electric guitar and backing vocals. Their first show quickly sold out leading to more UK dates are being added. The gigs are all unique, with set lists evolving and stories behind the songs being shared. Be prepared for an intimate evening with one of the UK’s most individual and cherished bands. Live at Daltons, a fresh new venue on the sea front with step-free accessibility. This is a standing show. If you have access requirements, please make sure to purchase an ambulant or wheelchair ticket. Tickets £13, more on the door.

Paint your own Large Abstract Painting workshop in Brighton | Lawrence Art Studio
Jan 19, 2025 (UTC+0)
Brighton
This isn’t a typical painting adult art class in Brighton. This isn’t a “paint by numbers” class or “copy how I paint” approach. In this workshop we will do things differently: The main tool we will be using is not the brush. It’s our mind - free from limitations. We will paint intuitively! Spontaneously to the music, allowing the paint to evolve and reveal itself freely into an explosion of colours, patterns, marks, shapes, texture on the canvas. We will paint big! Big brush movements, a bold colour pallet and even the fingers. The intention is to let go of any expectations. We will get messy! This is not about making pretty things. It’s rare opportunity to let go of perfectionism and experiment with a wide range of art materials (acrylic, watercolours, pastels, chalk etc) to free our inner artist and find our creative voice in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We will get creative! Art has no limitations, we use every day tools: window squeegee, credit card, bubble wrap, fork, scraper, feather, chopstick, ANYTHING to get our imagination going! Suddenly the concept of “painting” expands! It’s a painting wonderland full of possibilities. We will free ourselves from limiting beliefs! This dynamic and creative free-flow painting style will move us through past fears, creative blocks and self-doubt into joy and freedom! We will express ourselves! By opening our mind and listening to our heart, we can express our soul without boundaries or judgments. While experimenting with painting, we will build a relationship with who we are, reconnect to our inner child and fully express ourselves including the wisdom that is forever inside us. There is such freedom and joy in this! Who is this class for? This is a safe space for anyone! Even those who think they aren’t creative or can’t paint or draw. Also, this is a great opportunity for creative types who haven’t picked up a paintbrush in a while but are longing to express themselves through art. We can play and feel like a kid again without worrying about the end result. Nobody will judge what we create together. We are all on a journey to find our inner artist. The people who come to this class are from all walks of life: freelancers, entrepreneurs, website designers, yoga teachers, success coaches, parents….whatever! This could be fun and creative way to celebrate your birthday, anniversary or any other occasion (corporate team building) in Brighton, perfect Xmas gift too. What to expect on the day? Through fun, guided group and individual exercises we’ll explore wide range of art materials, experiment with an unconventional tools and try many abstract painting techniques including layering, mark making, texture. After a delicious lunch together, you will have time to develop your own intuitive painting on large canvas which you will take home with you at the end of the workshop. Lily Kerbey | Stealth Rock Tour | Live at The Folklore Rooms Brighton | The Folklore Rooms
Feb 9, 2025 (UTC+0)
Brighton
Hey there, I’m Lily - an ‘elder emo’ musician with a love for putting a unique, softer spin on the heavier tracks that shaped a generation. Known for turning unexpected songs from bands like Slipknot, Blink-182 and Taking Back Sunday through to Sleep Token, Bad Omens and Korn, into ‘stealth rock’ acoustic renditions, I take these typically heavy songs and strip them back to focus on the melody and lyrics. Usually, you’ll find me at badass weddings singing for couples who grew up on the emo, alt, and metal scenes saying I Do to the songs they hold close without upsetting their elder relatives. After many requests from people saying they’d love to see me live, whether they’re already married, wedding-free by choice, or just craving an intimate concert experience, I decided to hit the road for my first UK tour. Let’s make it a night to remember - no wedding RSVP required! Doors at 7pm With support from Sam Jayne - @SamJayneSings @SamJayneMusic

Carousel: A Theatre Show by Ivo Graham | The Forge Comedy Club

Teddy told me that in Greek nostalgia literally means the pain from an old wound. It’s a twinge in your heart, far more powerful than memory alone. Ivo Graham, who has watched this Mad Men clip approximately 100 times, steps away from the frivolity of his stand-up and invites you onto his own carousel: around and around, backwards and forwards, to the places he aches to go again.A searingly direct, exquisitely soundtracked story of a life: good luck at your next meeting.“A beautiful work of storytelling” Broadway World ★★★★★

Compèring Masterclass with Stephen Grant - BRIGHTON | The Forge Comedy Club
Mar 2, 2025 (UTC+0)
Brighton
Stephen Grant brings his highly acclaimed one day comedy masterclass workshops to the home of comedy in Brighton; The Forge Comedy Club. For over 10 years Stephen has hosted classes across the UK and abroad (Australia, Singapore, Dubai and Ireland) on specialist areas of performing, with a unique workshop approach that allows it to be specialised to every comedian’s style, even in a group environment.
These rare and always sold-out classes are designed for existing comedians of all levels to finesse skills beyond those taught at standard multi-date comedy courses. While compèring is easily acknowledged as another branch of the standup skillset, there are specific requirements of this that must be focused on, on top of those used in a standard standup performance. This one day, intensive course aims to cover all of those in a way that elevates compères of all levels. This workshop is aimed at existing standup comedians who want to hit the ground running with their compèring, and existing compères who may find some areas of their skillset requires fine tuning or improvement. Areas covered includes the advantages of attaining this ability, where it varies from straight standup, compère responsibilities, awareness of the 4th wall adjusting your act to environmental considerations, housekeeping, mic technique, styles of introduction, being a master of ceremonies, timekeeping, when to use material / interaction, the fundamentals of crowdwork, how to frame your performance, and some tips and don’ts that will elevate all levels of performance. The course will take a procedural approach and each attendee will be offered to ‘host a show’ so that feedback both common to all performers and specific to the individual will be worked through in a group setting. Attendance of Stephen's previous workshops is NOT required to attend this. Expected experience level: 6 months - 20 years (not suitable for those who have never performed before)Attendees: Min 8, Maximum 16The venue is fully accessible, please let us know in advance of any requirementsAge: 18+https://www.ironworks-studios.co.uk/terms-conditions
