Photo Fringe Artist Talk: Jack Latham | Phoenix Art Space
Nov 22, 2023 (UTC+0)ENDED
Brighton
Renowned photographer and filmmaker, Jack Latham, will be discussing his compelling new book, 'Beggar's Honey', at the Photo Fringe Artist Talk event. This thought-provoking publication delves into the secretive world of click-farming and the prevalence of fake followers in social media. Latham's work sheds light on the dark underbelly of click farms, which artificially inflate engagement metrics and manipulate algorithms with far-reaching consequences. These operations have the power to influence consumer behavior and undermine the integrity of democratic processes. To gain insight into this industry, Latham purchased his own click farm and documented the content he was instructed to manipulate. 'Beggar's Honey' pairs images of this manipulated content with photographs captured after gaining access to click farms in Vietnam and Hong Kong. This groundbreaking project has already received recognition, with an honorable mention from the prestigious Grand Prix Images Vevey 2019/2020 jury, chaired by Dayanita Singh. 'Beggar's Honey' has been made possible through the support of Images Vevey, the Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation, Heidi.news, Here Press, and Images Vevey. Join us for this insightful artist talk, taking place at the Phoenix Art Space in Brighton on November 22, 2023. Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend and contribute to this important dialogue.
