The University of Melbourne is home to more than 15 museums and galleries, and over 30 individual cultural collections. There are thousands of extraordinary artworks and objects. Some are well known iconic works by historical and emerging artists , but others are unknown treasures, ranging from South Asian manuscripts to early computer prototypes, and from premodern anatomical models and plant specimens to architectural models. In anticipation of the reopening of the Potter Museum of Art in 2025, the Australian Institute of Art History and the Potter have partnered for a new initiative exploring our University Collections. Nine artists, curators, and academics from a diverse range of disciplines were invited to choose a collection object for research and creative work. 9 Objects is the outcome of their work, a study day and celebration sharing what they have created or uncovered, and with the nine objects on special display for the single day of the event. Join us for this new look at our University Collections, for the morning session, afternoon session, or the whole day event. The event is organised by the Australian Institute of Art History with support from the Potter Museum of Art.
