Gujo Odori Dance Festival | Gujo
Celebration
The Gunjo Odori Festival is one of Japan's oldest and longest-running Bon Odori festivals, with a history of over 400 years. This two-month-long festival is held in the scenic town of Gujo-Yamana Castle, inviting locals and tourists to dance in the streets every night, preserving a rich cultural tradition.
The Gunjo Odori Festival originated from the "Dance Origin Festival" and has now developed into a grand event encompassing "Seven Major Festivals," such as the Yasaka Shrine Tenno Festival and the Bon Odori (all-night dancing) on July 16th, as well as festivals in various towns, lasting for over 30 nights. Particularly noteworthy is the "All-Night Dance Festival" from August 13th to 16th, where dancers dance from 8 pm until 5 am the next morning, a full nine hours.
