At the heart of these teaching institutions lie collections of drawings, acting as catalysts for intellectual growth and creativity across various disciplines beyond art and art history departments. By prioritizing learning, university art museums with drawing collections have the unique advantage of fostering museum audiences and practitioners while addressing contemporary challenges in innovative and experimental ways. Moderated by Edouard Kopp, the John R. Eckel, Jr. Foundation Chief Curator at Menil Drawing Institute, The Menil Collection, this panel brings together a distinguished lineup of curators from renowned university art collections. Elisa Germán, Lunder Curator of Works on Paper and Whistler Studies at Colby College Museum of Art; Laura M. Giles, Heather and Paul G. Haaga Jr., Class of 1970, Curator of Prints and Drawings at Princeton University Art Museum; Joachim Homann, Maida and George Abrams Curator of Drawings at Harvard University Art Museums; and Victoria Sancho Lobis, Sarah Rempel and Herbert S. Rempel '23 Director at Benton Museum of Art Pomona College will share their invaluable insights and experiences regarding collecting, exhibiting, and teaching with drawings.
