During this class, you will learn the art of shaping rings from sheet metal using anticlastic raising techniques. Working with sterling silver, you will master sizing, cutting, texturing, and soldering to create a ring that is not only well-fitting but also comfortable. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to add spinners and customize the patina according to your preferences. Please note that there is a $20 kit fee payable to the instructor on the day of the class. Cash or check are accepted. To ensure your spot, please come prepared to pay this fee. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with soldering and basic jewelry fabrication skills to perfect their setting technique. Taking place on January 26th, from 11:30 am to 4 pm, this class is aimed at those aged 18 and above. The class fee is $100, with an additional $20 kit fee. In this intermediate stone setting class, students will build upon their basic bezel setting skills to include stones with angles, points, and irregular shapes in closed or open back settings. Additionally, participants will learn how to incorporate decorative wire and create embellishments for unique and original designs. If you have a cabochon of your own, you are welcome to bring it along. For larger cabochons over 18mm in length or width, please bring a metal backing plate in 22 gauge to accommodate the size. Sterling silver backing plates will be provided for stones under 18mm. Please note that there is a supply kit fee that must be paid directly to the instructor on the day of the class. Hot Open Studio (Prerequisite Required) is an exciting 4-hour session specially designed for metalsmithing students who are passionate about torch work and independent projects. Led by the talented instructor Christina Bengtson, this event will take place on Wednesday, January 31st, at the renowned NW Rockhounds venue in Seattle. During this studio session, students will have the opportunity to practice torch work and pursue their own projects with the guidance of an experienced instructor. The studio provides a complete set of torch equipment and basic toolboxes for participants to use. Beginners with basic butane torch experience are more than welcome to join! Please note that this open studio does not offer formal scheduled instruction. However, Christina will be present throughout the session to answer any questions and provide guidance to students. Participants are not required to stay for the entire 4-hour time block and can join or leave at their convenience. However, it is important to register at least 24 hours prior to the event. In addition to the essential equipment and tools provided by the studio, there is a wide variety of specialty tools available for use, such as mandrels, hammers, third hands, titanium picks, and clamps. Rolling and wire mills are also available under supervision. To participate in this event, please bring your own metals, solder (if you intend to solder), flux, and any other consumables you wish to work with.
