Jun 16, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Leeds
Sports & Fitness
The Skate Sanctuary is a studio, designed for developing your roller dance skills. This could happen on or off skates - or a mixture of the two! We encourage skaters using the space to connect. Please note that coaching is not included in the session. If you prefer to practise some movements not on skates that is okay! This can be very helpful to support you to understand how your body moves before you try the same movement with skates on. There will be background music playing. If you are working on something specific, you may wish to bring your own headphones, but please ensure you are aware of others around you. Drinking water is available and we have a selection of hot and cold refreshments for sale. Skate Hire Skate hire is available from the front desk for £2 per session - you can pay by cash or card. Spectators Our practise sessions are intended for participants (in shoes or skates). We only have space for one spectator per participant. At busy times, spectators will need to purchase a ticket. Spectators must remain in designated seating or rest areas. Cancellation / Reschedule We are happy to re-arrange or refund your session, providing you let us know at least 24 hours in advance of your session time. You can email skate@rollergirlgang.co.uk or call 07479 430404. Video Etiquette We are happy for skaters to take progress video for their personal reflection, however we ask you keep filming to a minimum. If you wish to film for extended periods of time, consider booking the studio privately. Getting to The Skate Sanctuary On foot / public transport to Leeds city centre We are located a 10 minute walk from Leeds city bus station and the Yorkshire Playhouse. Facing the playhouse, turn left and walk past Leeds City College, under the painted bridge. You will find yourself at the end of Mabgate. Walk to the other end of Mabgate, past The Hope Foundry on the left and turn right onto Skinner Lane. Turn right again onto Macaulay Street and you will see the large open gate and downward slope to Mabgate Mills on your right. The Skate Sanctuary is the first building on your left. Look for our signs on the windows and door. Arriving by Car Postcode: LS9 7DZ What 3 words: maple.retail.deed There are extensive roadworks on the A61 Regent Street at the moment, so if you are driving through Leeds city centre, please allow additional time. There is free parking on-site after 5.30pm. Please note the car park spaces are tight and you may prefer to park on Macaulay street (also free) and walk round. The car park operates a one-way system. To exit, use the right hand corner gates. Approach slowly and wait for the sensor to open the gates, to exit onto Mabgate. About The Skate Sanctuary There are gender neutral toilets on site. We have a small kitchenette with a limited selection of hot drinks and water available for free. Please bring refillable bottles or hot cups. If you use a disposable cup, we would appreciate a pay-as-you-feel contribution. There are some soft drinks for sale. Information Source: The Skate Sanctuary | eventbrite

Botanical Cyanotypes & Bookmaking Workshop | Sunny Bank Mills Gallery

Jun 20, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Farsley
Arts
Craft
You will experiment with a variety of flowers and leaves to make and take away between 6 and 10 striking ‘blue prints’ (cyanotypes) ranging in paper finish and size. You will also hand stitch your own printed cyanotype-cover sketchbook to takeaway. In this workshop you will explore the process of cyanotypes, a cameraless form of photography where we will use the sunlight to capture silhouettes of different flowers and leaves. We'll compare the different affects you can create with opaque and translucent botanical objects, and see what interesting and playful results you get from layering. We will use our cyanotypes to hand stitch our own A6 note/sketchbook (to keep or give away!) Everything you need is provided, just bring an apron and/or wear scruffs as the cyanotype chemicals – although completely safe – can stain fabrics. If you have some leaves and flower cuttings you would like to use, bring these along. There is no minimum ability expected - anyone with an interest in the arts, printing and working with nature-based images are welcome. Be aware that we will be working outside in the sunshine so come prepared and protected from the elements with sun cream and a hat. In the event of adverse weather, we will work inside using a light box. There is no ‘formal’ break, but the workshop is very relaxed with opportunities for rest/time out throughout. Everyone is encouraged and supported to work at their own pace. Artist bio: The workshop is run by Zoe, a qualified and experienced art tutor currently teaching at a specialist arts university in Leeds. She also has a creative workshops venture called Short and Few which explores a range of analogue activities, including bookmaking, collage and paper arts, and lino printing. Her background is in graphic design and typography, but over the years she has developed a deep interest in process-driven arts and hands-on analogue practices. She is a big believer in learning by doing and making mistakes as a form of enquiry, an ethos which underpins her teaching. Zöe loves the buzz of seeing what people make when they least expect it, and inspiring people to develop a curiosity for what the arts can be about. Cyanotypes really do feel like magic when you see the process unfold. When attending a workshop you can receive 10% off within the Gallery Shop on the day of your session. About the venue Sunny Bank Mills is an inspirational cultural destination in the heart of the local community of Farsley, Leeds. Founded in 1829, these glorious Mills are being regenerated by the sixth generation of the family owners, creating a wonderful blend of work, leisure and culture. Sound Bath Relaxation | Yoga Hero

Jun 20, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Leeds
Cultural Experiences
A sound bath is a truly immersive experience. The entrancing tones gently settle you into a deep, restorative relaxation and many people attend to de-stress and find inner connection or healing. Sound baths, in particular, can quieten the mind and bring attention into the body in order to allow participants to become centred, grounded and begin to remove blockages and find purpose. Sound baths can often be more accessible to individuals who find traditional methods of mindfulness and meditation more difficult to practice. You will be invited to make yourself comfortable and listen with closed eyes. The session will start with a focus on your breath, and then you will be bathed in the beautiful sounds of wind gong, percussion, nature sounds and Crystal and Himalayan Singing Bowls. The session will conclude with gentle grounding to connect again with the present. Equipment needed for session: Mats, blankets and eye pillows will be provided for the session. But you may like to bring your own pillow, an extra blanket for more warmth and a bottle of water. You'll be laying down for the duration of the sound bath, so if you suffer from any lower back issues, we recommend bringing an extra pillow or rolled up towel to place under your knees. Dress warmly, with extra layers and thick socks (be as comfortable as possible!). We recommend having only a light meal beforehand. *Please arrive 10 minutes before to settle yourself into the space.* About Lee I am Lee, the founder of The Yoga Company. I am a creative and passionate person and I enjoy working on projects, problem-solving, making music and yoga. I have lived with my wife, who is a therapist, since the age of seventeen, and together we have raised our son and daughter to be balanced, healthy, happy and autonomous individuals. I understand, first hand, that stress is now one of the biggest wellbeing issues we need to face. In fact, it was my reflection on my 25 year career as a manager in education that led me to train as a yoga teacher and sound therapist to enable me to focus on my own health and, most importantly, to share all the benefits of my practice with those I now work with. Maddie Morris and Lunatraktors Live at All Hallows Leeds | All Hallows Church & Community Projects

Jun 21, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Leeds
Arts
Maddie Morris and Lunatraktors double headline tour reaches Leeds. Maddie Maddie Morris is an artist who strives to make a difference in the world. Bold, insightful and refreshingly unique, they take traditional song in new directions to shine a light on contemporary issues. Folk songs have always told stories, but how Maddie makes their mark is by turning this storytelling into action. Described by Jim Moray as “leading the next generation of socially conscious songwriters”, they use their work to highlight inequality, challenge viewpoints and provide an inclusive space for shared experiences. Whether they’re turning a centuries-old ballad on its head or writing something new, Maddie places their focus on drawing out true meaning rather than being true to tradition. Their debut studio album, Skin, (release February 2024) is a beautifully crafted collection of songs which amplifies the stories of those often marginalised by society. Passionately political, yet gently understated, this is music that deftly treads the path between art and activism. Lunatraktors Lunatraktors is a collaboration between artist, choreographer and percussionist Carli Jefferson (she/her), and artist, vocalist and researcher Clair Le Couteur (they/them). The project started in 2017 with the post-apocalyptic question: what's left when we've lost everything? Stripping folk song down to the bare bones, Lunatraktors’ 'broken folk' blends Le Couteur’s overtone singing and 3+ octave range with the hybrid of tap dance, flamenco and body percussion that Jefferson developed after touring with STOMP (2001-2004). The pair turned heads when their DIY debut This Is Broken Folk – percussion and vocals recorded live in a viaduct arch by Ramsgate harbour – made MOJO Magazine's Top Ten Folk Albums of 2019. Jefferson’s compulsion to dance while drumming prompted Lunatraktors to assemble a tonal percussion kit, providing both rhythm and melody. Added resonances come from Le Couteur’s free-reed instruments, whistles and analogue synth. Reimagining Anglo-Celtic folk through a shared teenage absorption in jungle, drum’n’bass, triphop, art rock and post-punk, Lunatraktors have built up a passionate fan base at festivals, galleries, museums, theatres and queer cabarets. A double act in the old fashioned sense, Jefferson’s hyper-expressive performance style meets Le Couteur’s channelled voices of multiple tragicomic characters. Second album The Missing Star was #2 in MOJO Magazine’s Top Ten Folk Albums of 2021. Recent commissions include: Ten Songs for a Lar; Invisible Worlds (UCL, National Trust); a British Music Collection LGBTQ+ Composer Award; and ‘Beyond the Binary’ – exploring gender expression in Music Hall, Pantomime and Variety (Kent Library Archives). About the Venue All Hallows Leeds has a strong reputation as a Queer friendly space. The building is all on one level giving good access for people with mobility issues, There is a large wheelchair accessible toilet (labelled as all gender) as well as other toilets. The room is usually all seated but should have space to get up and move around, seats in rows but expect a couple of sofas at the back of the room. Bar details will be added nearer the time (i.e. once we know what we are doing ) There is a small carpark at the front of the venue but if you need park directly next to the door please do message in advance. ] The gigs are organised by a small number of friends who are passionate about music, we only put on 2 or 3 gig a year for acts we absolutely love. This event is for 16y+ accompanied by an adult Embark on a supernatural adventure and delve into the unknown as you become a paranormal investigator for the night. Explore some of the most haunted locations in the North East, Yorkshire and Lancashire with Spirit Seekers. Robert Craven Hall Built in 1896 in honour of a wealthy, local gentleman. It was first used as a working mans club and later became a community hall. Poltergeist activity and strange occurrences have literally grabbed the attention of people here. Some have actually fled the building whilst claiming they have been touched by something. Fixtures have flown from walls, voices and loud banging can be heard along with eerie singing and creepy piano music coming from upstairs. About us Join Spirit Seekers and become a paranormal investigator for the night. Make use of our specialised equipment and be guided by our experienced paranormal investigators who will share their knowledge, techniques and experiences of investigating. Got your own equipment? Bring it along and don't forget your torch! Wrap up warm as old buildings can get cold but please refrain from wearing clothing that can cause distracting sounds. Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided but feel free to bring along your own as well. We approach our investigations sceptically and logically, however, we are fully open to other beliefs and those who wish to, will be invited to join in prayers of protection before and after the event. In our pursuit of understanding the paranormal, authenticity is our guiding principle. We firmly believe in transparency and integrity, recognising the importance of delivering genuine experiences. Faking paranormal activity undermines the essence of our mission which is to explore the unexplained with honesty and respect. We leave it to you to decide. Each investigation is approached with sincerity, allowing the unknown to unfold naturally, however, as much as we try we can’t guarantee that members of the spirit world will make their presence known, but we can at least guarantee you will experience a fun and interesting night. Leeds
Cultural Experiences
Saturday June 21 st 10am-12.30pm and 2-4.30pm It's The Beer Talking offers a series of walking tours run by author and former Yorkshire Evening Post beer writer Simon Jenkins and former Tetley's PR officer Nicky Massen. Join us on the longest day for two special walking tours in the company of Leeds author, historian and all-round good egg Dr Rachael Unsworth, who runs Leeds City Walking Tours . This special two-part tour combines Rachael’s expertise in local history, geography and architecture with our love of brewing, pubs and beer, to give a unique insight in the social and cultural history of our city. The morning tour begins at the City Varieties in White Swan Yard, and we gradually wend our way south, by way of some fascinating stories and a couple of drink stops, before we arrive at the wonderful old Adelphi beside Leeds Bridge. Here we will take lunch, before moving on for an afternoon tour south of the river and into the city’s industrial heartland of Holbeck, for more stories and a couple more drinks. You’ll learn how Briggate once offered a pub crawl like no other, how the Tetley family grew from maltsters to one of the biggest brewing businesses in the world. You’ll learn about brewing and drinking – and also about the rise of the temperance movement and its mission to save souls from the demons of drink. There will be tales of tragedy and sadness, innovation and enterprise, skulduggery and death. You can choose to join the morning or afternoon tour (£18 each) or join us for the full day (£30). The price covers the cost of the tour, but not the food and drink along the way. To join us for the full day - and take advantage of the discount - book separately for the two events, but use the discount code FULLDAY216 when booking for the afternoon tour. We will also accept payment by card or cash before the walk – but places are strictly limited, so please book in advance to guarantee your place. A LSO - if you can't make this date or time, but would still like to have one of our tours, please get in touch and we'll do our very best to accommodate you: Call Nicky Massen: 07876 055354 or email: cheers@itsthebeertalking.co.uk Read some great reviews from Leeds Confidential and Leeds List - and watch this Leeds List video! THIS IS A SPECIAL EVENT FOR AGES 8+ WITH AN ADULT Embark on a supernatural adventure and delve into the unknown as you become a paranormal investigator for the night.
