Come along to my workshop in Thorniley Studios for the perfect beginners course in traditional silversmithing and jewellery making techniques. We will explore some basic techniques including sawing, soldering and shaping/forming to create a simple sterling silver ring. The silver we will be using is 100% recycled and all materials are provided. By the end of the afternoon you will have your very own silver ring to take home, handmade by you. The workshop lasts about 4 hours and the design of the ring is a simple silver band with either a mirror polish or hammered textured finish (see photos below). If you are interested in making something more bespoke I offer private workshops. More information can be found here. Refund policy I do not offer refunds so please bear that in mind when purchasing tickets. Tickets can be transferred to an alternative date up to 14 days prior to the event. Lead artist Naomi Kendrick, together with artist assistant Helen Newman, will introduce a process of exploring ideas and creating art. We'll get to experience art from the perspective of other people and contribute our own thoughts if we want to (but no pressure!) Handcraft your unique Manchester bee, the emblem of Manchester of which there are 7 on the city crest, and experience the age old metal technique of cuttlefish casting. Through the workshop Ella will guide you through the process of carving your design from the unusual material cuttlefish bone before we pour the molten pewter (lead free metal) to reveal your design. We will then finish your cast using traditional jewellery tools and techniques before polishing your pendant, keyring or brooch so you can proudly take your final piece home. A fascinating technique with beautiful results. Suitable for beginners or those with previous silver or jewellery experience. FAQs What should I bring to the event? All materials are provided including tea, coffee and biscuits as well as aprons and design inspiration however if you have any doodles or pictures of ideas you'd like to make please do bring them along. Designs and drawings measuring a maximum of 5cm square work best so they can be transferred onto the size of the cuttlefish. How can I contact the organiser with any questions? A celestial exploration between light, sound and setting based over the hill in the Calder Valley comes to Manchester. Blending the practices of Pauline Oliveros’s, Deep Listening and the history of the local area's most notable buildings, these happenings use the natural reverberations of the environment and their acoustic architecture. We combine this with crystal lighting effects and hand-crafted cymatic projections which develop live feedback from the musicians to fill these spaces with audio and visual vibrations at all levels of the electromagnetic spectrum (and perhaps beyond what is commonly thought of) into a multi-dimensional experience.
