SOLD OUT -Doan Girls Retreat - MSQC - Retreat Center - July 22 - 25, 2025 | This event will be held at the Missouri Star Quilt Company Retreat Center.
Jul 22, 2025 (UTC-5)
Lake Hamilton
Join Natalie and Misty Doan for four fun-filled days of sewing, laughter, and love at a 2025 Doan Girls Retreat in Hamilton, Missouri (Quilt Town USA)!! This fantastic duo will inspire you by teaching you two projects as well as sharing stories about their lives, their family, and their sewing journey.
Natalie and Misty are putting the final touches on what they are teaching soon, but rest assured, their projects are incredible and new for 2025. All the fabric you need to complete the two projects will be supplied to you in a kit at the retreat, so all you need to bring are your favorite sewing notions or supplies. You can either bring your own sewing machine or you can reserve one of ours online - the choice is yours! And don't forget, Missouri Star has 16 quilt shops in Hamilton, so if you forget something or just want to shop 'til you drop, we have you covered!
While Natalie and Misty will keep you busy - please bring projects to work on. We love seeing what you are creating and we give you plenty of time for open sewing (the perfect chance to tackle that stack of UFOs)! And while not mandatory to participate, we always have our Show & Tell on Thursday evenings, so bring something that you want to share (or maybe you want to share something you made while at retreat). Show and Tell is always a highlight of the week for everyone - quilting can be so personal and the stories told always give us all the warm and fuzzies?
So what can you expect during the Doan Girls Retreat (besides hours and hours of fellowship and sewing)?
Sleeping Rooms -
all rooms are upstairs and are shared - there are no private rooms available and a chair lift is available for assistance. There are two ADA rooms available upon request.
Meals -
Dinner will be served on Tuesday evening. A continental breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday morning, enjoy a hot "farewell" breakfast before you check out and get on the road! Of course, for you early birds Monday evening, a continental breakfast will be served Tuesday morning.
Snacks -
We set out a snack table - because sewing definitely makes us all snack-y. We provide light snacks for the group but if there is something particular you crave, feel free to bring it.
Sewing Table Seating -
We do have assigned seating for the well-lit sewing tables (personal sewing lamps are optional). If you are traveling with a friend or friends and would like to sit together - no problem? Please just indicate this on your registration form with the names of the people you wish to sit by. We also provide cutting/ironing tables, and power strips.
Sewing Machines -
As we have said above, you are welcome to bring your own sewing machine (don't forget all your cords)!! But if you want to travel light, you can absolutely use one of our machines at a cost of $75 for the duration of the retreat. If you do need to reserve a machine, please indicate this on your registration form.
We know things happen, but if for some reason you need to cancel after you have booked your reservation, please let us know as soon as possible. The retreat is only fully refundable 60 days in advance of the start date. In the event that you are past the 60-day notice and are unable to attend, you may transfer your reservation to someone else or move to another retreat at a later date.
If you need to cancel, please email us at retreats@missouriquiltco.com or call us at (816) 265-1812.

Local Pressure & Lake Porter Live at the Corktown | Corktown Irish Pub, The
Jul 25, 2025 (UTC-4)
Lake Hamilton
Doors: 7 PM
Opening set: 8PM
ABOUT
Lake Porter
is a brand new singer-songwriter trio that thrives in the space between Folk Americana + Rock and Roll, balancing raw storytelling with rich melodies and a dynamic live show. What started as a casual collaboration between friends quickly took on a life of its own, revealing a sound too strong to keep to themselves.
Featuring Martina Lake (Harlette), Taryn McKenna (Three’s Company), and Jonny Porter (Staylefish), the band brings together three distinct voices, blending acoustic warmth, banjo-driven rhythms, and haunting violin lines. Their music is deeply personal yet instantly relatable songs that stick with you long after the last note fades.
On stage, Lake Porter doesn’t hold back. Their performances are intimate but full of energy, pulling audiences into every lyric, harmony, and stomp of the floor. Whether it’s a stripped-down ballad or an all-out foot-stomper, they make sure you feel every moment.
Local Pressure
is a Canadian rock band formed in spring of 2022. Their sound is a mix of folk rock, indie rock, Americana, Heartland rock and Southern rock.
The line-up consists of singer and guitarist Steve Kirstein, guitarist Nathan Vanderveen, bassist Drew Vanderveen, drummer Jonny Porter and keyboardist John Kirstein.
The band played their first gig in their hometown of Hamilton, Ontario in April of 2022 at their local bar, the Corktown Pub. What was supposed to be a 30 minute opening slot turned into a full evening, as both of the other scheduled bands cancelled minutes before the show.
Some notable performances include their CMW Showcase (June 10, 2023) and multiple Horseshoe Tavern appearances (2022-2023).
REFUND POLICY
Please purchase your tickets carefully - there are NO REFUNDS or exchanges on purchased tickets, unless the event is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.
ABOUT THE VENUE
The Legendary Corktown Pub is Hamilton’s oldest licensed establishment and live music venue. For more than 80 years the Corktown has played host to local and international talent. The kitchen boasts a modern menu, with locally sourced ingredients and made to perfection.

Hamilton Seabin Waste Characterization with Bay Area Restoration Council | Harbour West Marina
Jul 31, 2025 (UTC-4)
Lake Hamilton
Join the
Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup (GLPC)
, an initiative of
Pollution Probe
and the
Council of the Great Lakes Region
along with the
Bay Area Restoration Council
at Harbour West Marina to sort, characterize, and count plastic waste and other debris caught in our plastic capture technology!
Seabins are devices at the surface of the water designed to catch and trap floating plastic and debris for safe and easy removal from our waterways! From plastic fragments, foam pellets, and tape to cigarette butts, bottle caps, and food wrappers, these items are harmful to life in and around the lake. It is crucial to catch, remove, and examine the types of litter that enter the Great Lakes, for the health of our aquatic ecosystems. Every piece of debris removed from Lake Ontario is a step towards a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful lake that we can all enjoy!
All equipment required will be provided by GLPC, and we only ask you to dress appropriately for the weather, wear sunscreen, and bring a reusable water bottle!
*The event end time may vary depending on how much waste was collected in the Seabins.
Directions: If you are coming by Main Street to James Street and turn north (left) follow James Street to Guise Street and turn left (west). The parking lot is on your right and shared with the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jamie at
hamilton
.glpc@gmail.com or Kaeley at kaeley@bayarearestoration.ca.
About the Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup:
The Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup, an initiative of Pollution Probe and the Council of the Great Lakes Region, uses innovative capture technologies to prevent and remove plastic in the Great Lakes, from the St. Lawrence River to Lake Superior and everywhere in between. By analyzing the plastic collected, the initiative provides vital information about pollution sources and pathways, while engaging local communities, government, industry, and consumers around how we can all work together to end plastic pollution. The largest initiative of its kind in North America, the Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup is made possible through support from a network of funders and collaborators across the binational Great Lakes region.
