The Berlin Ceilidh feat. Nightlark It’s a match! Information Source: Consense GmbH | eventbrite

Tracing the Wound: Body, Memory, and Myth @ IKSK Berlin | IKSK - Institut für Körperforschung und sexuelle Kultur

(20€ - 40€) Limited Capacity, register via form in link: https://www.theplayhouseberlin.com/iksk-workshop-tracing-the-wound Drop in also available Workshopping the body as a site of memory, transformation, scar tracing and personal mythology. We will explore the feeling of belonging, sensuality, and fluidity. We shift to painting and drawing on each other’s bodies, where we trace and map our physical forms, honouring scars, tension points, and the unspoken stories carried under the skin. The event offers a space to touch without expectation, to be seen without judgment, and to find playfulness in loosening the knots that we hold within us. Tracing the Wound: Body, Memory, and Myth by The Playhouse Collective is for the first time at IKSK, exploring, through body mark-making, scar tracing, and tactile rituals, the process of tracing the body’s stories—its transformations, wounds, and resilience. Celebrating the fluidity of identity and the expansion of a post-human conceptualisation, this event invites you to explore your personal mythology—using touch, movement, and artistic rituals to dissolve barriers and embrace your fullest, most authentic selves. By weaving elements of gender fluidity, trauma work, sensuality, and self-exploration, we create a 'playhouse' space — where bodies are perceived as landscapes of experience, where fantasy and authenticity merge, and where the pain of love can begin to be seen in its most expansive and unbounded form. PlanArrival & Grounding Brief introduction to themes and mindfulnessBody Awareness & Sensory Warm-Up Movement exercises, and guided prompts to notice tension, scars, or memories in the body.Partnered Body Mapping Touch & Connection Exercises Creative Body Mark-Making Use artistic materials to decorate, highlight, or symbolically alter the markings on the body.Express personal mythology through drawn symbols or patterns.Movement & Ritual Exploration Engage in guided movement based on traced marks and body sensations.Participate in a collective movement ritualClosing Ritual This structure ensures a practical, hands-on experience blending movement, drawing, touch, and storytelling in a safe and inclusive space. Evil Flowers | Staatliche Museen zu Berlin

Dec 12, 2024–May 4, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Berlin
Exhibitions
Les Fleurs du Mal (The Flowers of Evil) by Charles Baudelaire is one of the milestones of world literature. First published in Paris in 1857, the volume caused a scandal that led to Baudelaire being taken to court. Despite these less than auspicious beginnings, the poems were to have an enormous impact. In literature as well as in art, they laid the foundations for a new aesthetic that overturned the traditional idea of the oneness of the beautiful and the good. Taking Odilon Redon’s charcoal drawing Fleur du Mal (c. 1890) in the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection as its starting point, the exhibition takes the visitor on a journey through the art of the early modernist period all the way to contemporary works that shed light on the various aspects of Baudelaire’s aesthetics as well as its after- and side effects. In addition to a small selection of works that were created as a direct response to his poems, the exhibition focuses on specific themes that are central to Les Fleurs du Mal.

Get to Work! The Work and Toil of Women | Staatliche Museen zu Berlin

Feb 18–May 18, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Berlin
Exhibitions
Women’s contributions to society are often unseen and seldom considered in art. Many women’s names and their stories have long since been forgotten. Using French, German, Italian, Spanish and Dutch works on paper, the exhibition looks behind the allegorical scenes to shed light on women’s work in the 18th century, including toiling in the fields, caring for children and performing manual labour. The small thematic exhibition presents 25 French, German, Italian, Spanish and Dutch prints from the 16th to 18th centuries preserved in the Kupferstichkabinett’s (Museum of Prints and Drawings) rich holdings. Works have been selected that show women in everyday activities, working as peasants, farmhands, teachers, maids, midwives and courtesans. One focus provide insight into the professions practised by women, including attending to births as midwives; another shows those areas of society where men and women went about their daily tasks side by side (as equals?). Beneath the allegorical layers of meaning, the viewer often discovers self-confident women going about their lives, yet the hardship of everyday travail is evident. To this day, so-called care work for children and the elderly receives little recognition; efforts are being made to reconcile work and family life and to achieve equality between women and men, including in financial matters, but these goals have yet to be fully attained.

Maria Brunner: Acqua Felice | Capitain Petzel

Feb 28–Apr 12, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Berlin
Exhibitions
The exhibition’s title, Acqua Felice, references the historic Roman aqueduct, which once transformed the city’s water supply, echoing Maria Brunner’s engagement with flow and movement. The artist previously worked in a hyper-realistic mode, a process that ultimately became an act of constraint, a self-imposed discipline that led to a rupture. The new body of work in the exhibition marks a return to fundamentals – gesture, material, surface – making a connection to her early drawings. While traces of realism remain, such as a reference to Ernst Mach’s self-portrait drawn from his own perspective in the painting ALLES WALZER, DEIN ERNST, they recede into something more elusive, a fragmented presence.
