Fire Poker/Marshmallow Roasting Stick Class at War Horse Forge | 19Hands

At War Horse Forge, veterans, active duty military, and first responders learn blacksmithing skills using traditional techniques. Our programs are located on our farm in Stafford, Virginia.
In this class, you will forge a fire poker with a twist on the handle and a hook to hang it from. Or choose to make a marshmallow roasting stick for creating smores. The class is limited to12 people. Each attendee needs to register individually and must be at least 18 years old.
The only fee is $25 to register for the class. Upon completion of the class, you can choose to have your $25 refunded (minus Eventbrite fees)or donate it to War Horse Forge. We hope this nominal (and refundable) fee will ensure those who sign-up for a class do show up as we often have waitlists. If this fee is a hardship, please let us know (540/538-7453).
War Horse Forge is the blacksmithing program of our nonprofit 19Hands Inc. We offer free hands-on programs to veterans, active duty military, first responders, and their supporters.

Wildlings is a play group with a twist with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust! Come along and try new things outdoors. You could swing in a hammock, get mucky making a mud pie or find yourselves mesmerised by the flames of a campfire.
We will have a campfire weather permitting, but if there is anything specific you would like to toast on the campfire please bring it with you. Hand sanitiser will be provided.
We play whatever the weather so please make sure your little ones and yourself are dressed suitably.
From 1st April 2024, our ticket prices will increase slightly to accommodate Eventbrite's small booking fee on top of the ticket cost, for all our payable events. This is to ensure we receive the full payment from each ticket, and can continue doing the work we do. All of our work is made possible by your continued support, so thank you for supporting the work of your local wildlife charity.

Come and join Staffordshire Wildlife Trust for a morning of REALLY WILD themed activities! To celebrate the start of 30 days wild where the Wildlife Trust’s encourage families to do something wild every day throughout June. Each activity will encourage you to get a bit wild. Whether that is swinging in the hammocks, playing in the mud kitchen, following the nature trails to insect hunting and wild crafts.
These two hour long activities give you and your children the chance to explore the great outdoors, with our Wildchild Team at hand to help you along the way. This session will follow the Forest School ethos of child-led exploration and play.
All our activities take place outdoors therefore please dress for the weather.

Come and discover what creatures call the Wolseley Centre home.
Together using different methods and equipment we will explore the site to find out who lurks beneath the depths of the pond and who is hiding under the log piles! These two hour long activities give you and your children the chance to explore the great outdoors, with our Wildchild Team at hand to help you along the way.

Meet us in front of the Learning Hub which is located at the bottom hill in front of the car park. From there we will begin minibeast hunting before moving to the lakes to pond dip.

Nature Tots is an indoor and outdoor adult and toddler group run by Staffordshire Wildlife trust. Each week has a different theme; we could be bug hunting, marvelling at magic or exploring a story. Welcome to our brand new home education sessions. These sessions follow the Forest School ethos to develop learning through play and be child-led. The sessions aim to provide children and their parents the opportunity to connect with the outside world and to learn a range of new skills. Activities may include fire lighting, tool use, shelter building, wildlife identification and a variety of outdoor crafts and games. Come and give it a go!
Parents are required for the duration of the session but are encouraged to take a step back.

On Sunday 22nd June 2025, we are holding a Wilder Skill event to celebrate Father’s day. Join us for a morning of knife whittling where attendees will make bespoke mushroom ornaments and a kazoo plus try your hand at making natural cordage out of nettles. The event will take place in our outdoor classroom at the Wolseley Centre.
Attendees will be get some light refreshments during the sessions and a free tasty panini to have in the Kingfisher café after the event, which is included within the ticket price.

Wildlings is a play group with a twist with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust! Come along and try new things outdoors. You could swing in a hammock, get mucky making a mud pie or find yourselves mesmerised by the flames of a campfire.
We will have a campfire but if there is anything specific you would like to toast on the campfire please bring it with you.
Hand sanitiser will be provided.We play whatever the weather so please make sure your little ones and yourself are dressed suitably.
Meet us in the outdoor classroom at The Wolseley Centre.
Follow the new accessible path up the hill, passed our Learning Hub and you will find us in the top left corner next to the Tipi. If in doubt ask in reception and they will point you in the right direction.

This event it is essential that you book in advance and we regret to say that if you arrive to the event and have not booked your place you will be unable to join the event. Please check your spam folder for your booking confirmation email if you have not received one after making the booking.
