Shakespeare’s Stolen Stories - Folktales that inspired The Bard | Temperance

Theater
Shakespeare found inspiration from a lot of places - and here's the chance to hear some of those inspirations: folktales of 'Herne the Hunter', the bloodthirsty and murderous 'Mr Fox', the daughter who didn't praise her father enough and was banished in 'A Love Like Salt' and more. Professional storytellers Cath Edwards and Jason Buck transport you back to a time of mystery and magic, when gods and monsters walked the land and not everyone lives happily ever after, all in the shady cellar venue of Leamington's premier live performance venue: Temperance. Doors open at 7pm, for a 7:30pm start (interval half way). Cath Edwards is a warm and witty professional storyteller. She performs at festivals, in storytelling clubs and at many other venues across the country and internationally. Working mainly with traditional material, she shapes a series of compelling images that will stay with you long after the story is ended. More about Cath... Jason Buck is a man made of myth, magic and mead. His stories are filled with adventure, his beard is full of unexpected twists and his tankard filled with a poet's brew. Sit around the fire and listen to his tales - you won't be disappointed. Abbie, Strange Times Storytelling Club Information Source: Jason Buck Storyteller | eventbrite

Nonconformity and Revolutions | Widcombe Baptist Church

Bath
Cultural Experiences
2025 marks the 250th anniversaries which commemorate the American Revolution. Not only a period of geopolitical upheaval, it saw a transformation in the theologies and networks that had shaped eighteenthcentury Dissent throughout the British Atlantic world. Notions of liberty and toleration were again brought into relief; events which were interpreted through the lens of divine providence shaped perspectives on all sides. This conference aims to reflect upon the relationship between religious dissent and the events, characters, and narratives that informed the American Revolution. These contributions, as well as their subsequent historiographies, were subject to a myriad of interpretations on both sides of the Atlantic. As such, this period provides fertile ground for fresh considerations around our understanding of what constitutes British Nonconformity in the second half of the eighteenth century. This conference is co-sponsored by American Society of Church History and Andrew Fuller Centre for Baptist Studies . Conference Schedule : 10:00–10:30 Registration & Welcome 10:30–11:00 Clayton Cummings (University of Texas at Dallas), “Hugh Peters: American pilgrim and British regicide” 11:00–11:30 David Lytle (Gateway Seminary), “John Clarke and religious liberty in transatlantic perspective” 11:30–11:45 Tea Break 11:45–12:15 David Busch (Gateway Seminary), “‘Give ‘em Watts, boys’: Isaac Watts’ hymns as revolutionary texts in American dissent” 12:15–13:30 Lunch 13:30–14:00 Austin Wright (The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary), “‘The revolution under God’: Evangelical Calvinism in the political sermons of Caleb Evans” 14:00–14:30 John T. Lowe (University of Louisville), “‘The liberty of righteousness’: A revolution of spirit and of body in Abraham Booth’s long eighteenth-century Great Britain” 14:30–14:45 Tea Break 14:45–15:15 Baiyu Andrew Song (Andrew Fuller Centre for Baptist Studies), “‘To have free liberty’: William Winterbotham (1763–1829) and his prison treatises” 15:15–15:45 David Mark Rathel (Gateway Seminary), “Evangelicals, ecclesiology, and empire: How ecclesial commitments shaped early evangelical reactions to British rule in India” 15:45–16:30 Panel discussion & Concluding remarks 17:00 Dinner (optional) Information Source: British Nonconformity in the Long 18th Century | eventbrite

Information Source: TerraLab ETS | eventbrite
