For more than 80 years, the Cancer Research Society (CRS) has been one of the only Canadian philanthropic organizations entirely dedicated to funding research on all types of cancer. Since its inception, the CRS has supported thousands of researchers who have made significant advances in cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. CRS has invested $423 million since 1945. This event is the first annual Herbert HL Townsend fundraiser to raise $45,000 ($1,400 raised to date) and is being established on behalf of the late Paulette and Joseph Townsend in honour of the late Herb (pictured in the banner above), who tragically died in January 2016, eight weeks after being diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and 27 days before his 41st birthday. Herbert’s mother, Paulette, died the following year in October 2017 at the age of 74 of Rectal Cancer, and his brother Joe died a few years later in November 2022 at the age of 50 from extreme grief. Join us for our Rest & Renewal: Restorative Yoga, Reiki & Soundbath When: Sunday, June 22nd from 4:00pm - 6:00pm Where: MOVATI Mississauga, SKY Studio About the Workshop: This transformative worshop blends the calming practice of Restorative Yoga with the gentle power of Reiki energy healing. In this session, supported yoga postures and mindful stillness guide the body into a state of deep relaxation, allowing the nervous system to shift into rest and renewal. As you settle into each pose, Reiki is offered by a certified Reiki Master to enhance energetic flow, balance the chakras, and release stored tension on a subtle level. Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice that uses universal life force energy to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The word “Reiki” comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” meaning life energy. Practitioners channel this energy through their hands, by gently placing their hands on or above the recipient's body. Energy can become stagnant in the body where there has been physical injury or even emotional pain. Reiki can improve the flow of energy and remove blocks within the body. This may aid in relaxation, assist in the body’s natural healing processes, and develop emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. In the second half of the workshop, you’ll be immersed in a deeply soothing Soundbath experience. Surrounded by the healing vibrations of crystal singing bowls, chimes, an ocean drum and other resonant instruments, participants are invited to simply rest and receive. The sound frequencies support the body’s natural healing processes, calm the mind, and deepen the meditative state initiated during yoga and Reiki. The vibrations and frequencies in a Sound Bath will promote healing and overall well-being. This therapy is based on the law of resonance, whereby the sound waves produced by singing bowls and other instruments interact with the body's own vibrational frequency, leading to several positive effects on both the mind and the body. As the vibrational sounds fill the room and surround your body, your nervous system will switch into a restorative alpha and/or theta state by down-regulating the nervous system. Learn gardening basics at our Summer Season Garden Care and Maintenance Workshop. We’ll walk you through garden care and maintenance fundamentals for the Summer season like companion planting, interplanting, succession planting, crop rotation, maximizing the harvest, harvesting techniques, organic fertilizers and pest management techniques. Emphasis will be placed on organic, sustainable gardening techniques that respond to Mississauga’s changing climate through the promotion of healthy soil, water conservation, and other low-impact gardening. This workshop will include a hands-on gardening activity involving organic fertilizers and natural pest control solutions so please dress appropriately. The Summer Season Garden Care and Maintenance Workshop is the second of our four-part Homegrown Mississauga Gardening Series. Subsequent sessions will take place throughout the year so keep an eye out for workshop dates in the fall and winter. Great for residents with limited or no gardening experience.
