Both are made in one piece with a simple tie-on for flexible fitting, and based on a couple of basic measurements. They can be made with cotton, or for a little more of a challenge, with a rayon-blend or knit fabric. You will learn: How to read a pattern and pattern instructions, Choosing and preparing fabric, Learning about fabric grainline and pattern layout, Cutting out the pattern, Review of stitches, seams, seam allowances and seam finishes. In this two-day class, June 11 & 18 , 6-9 pm, you’ll be provided expert instruction to start work on a full-color embroidery piece. If you’ve never threaded a needle, or are a beginner looking for a little guidance, we’ll go over how to use a hoop, select threads and fabrics, transfer a design to your fabric, use a variety of stitching techniques, and finish a hoop in a couple of different ways. A hoop and all needed tools and materials will be provided. Some homework is recommended, but not required, between sessions. About the instructor: Dan Toomre is a textile artist from Redmond, Washington, who got his degree in Textiles and Fashion from Maine College of Art and Design. At this event, we’ll take a deep dive into the areas of safety, consent, and healing through non-sexual touch. Participation in any of the exercises is completely optional.
