Overview Summary
The
Downtown Collaborative Initiative
is a professionally coordinated marketing campaign designed to drive consumer traffic from the north end into the heart of downtown Nanaimo. Its core objective is to introduce new customers to local businesses by creating an inviting, intimate setting where community members can connect with business owners and experience firsthand the unique offerings of downtown shops and services.
Key Highlights of the Initiative:
Shared Investment, Shared Success
As part of the Downtown Collaborative Initiative, each participating boutique, business, restaurant and Lumisenz Production Corporation contributes to the efforts and small costs of supplies required in producing the event by providing in-kind provisions for the event. This shared investment supports a high-impact marketing campaign and professional video content that benefits all partners equally. Together, we are positioning ourselves as a united and dynamic retail force in downtown Nanaimo—maximizing visibility, encouraging foot traffic, and reigniting interest in exploring what our vibrant downtown has to offer. It’s our time to shine and show the community why downtown is worth the visit.
Personal Connections Build Business:
Studies show consumers are more likely to support businesses they feel connected to. These events allow potential customers to meet business owners face-to-face and form meaningful relationships that foster loyalty.
Mid-week +
Saturday Night Foot Traffic:
Events are scheduled to end by 8:00 PM, creating a perfect launch point for guests to explore downtown’s dining, tapas bars, and live entertainment. By 8:30 PM, guests are encouraged to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere downtown has to offer.
Strong Social Media Presence:
Each event is supported by a 21-day strategic media campaign across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, featuring both pre- and post-event video reels to maximize exposure and engagement.
Minimal Time, Maximum Value for Business Owners:
The entire event is organized and managed by
Lumisenz Production Corporation
, led by Dawn Wiggers. From planning to execution, Dawn handles all logistics, social media, and creative direction. Cosmic Foam (Victoria) and Mestizx (Amsterdam - International Anthem) | The Vault Cafe

Victoria, BC's
Cosmic Foam
play post-psychedelic free rock jams with jazz-rock psych, noise and experimental influences. With Mihkel Kaup - guitar, Don Chessa - bass, Nevada Brown - drums and Shane Krause - saxophones. Members of The Roses, Golden Hand, Evil!, Small Pleasures and Allotropes.
https://cosmicfoam.bandcamp.com
MESTIZX
is Bolivian-born singer and multi-medium performer Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti and renowned Chicago expat jazz drummer Frank Rosaly's debut album as co-composers, arrangers and musicians.
The music creatively infuses Latin rhythmic patterns and oblong swing from pre-and post-colonial Latin America into a collision of avant jazz, art punk, Chicago post-rock, bomba, plena, cumbia, Andean, minimal, electronica, and folk. A wholly original but undeniably universal sound – both of-the-moment and alluringly futuristic - MESTIZX contains points of reference and resonance for fans of Juana Molina, Café Tacvba, Max Roach & Abbey Lincoln, Liquid Liquid, Arto Lindsay, As Mercenarias, The Ex, Tortoise, Tom Zé, Elza Soares, La Mecanica Popular...
It’s a vast, vibrant and encompassing spectrum of sounds, but at its core MESTIZX is a lucidly conscious collection of auto-biographical statements from Ferragutti & Rosaly on the deeply personalized effects of colonialism on geography, history, and identity. Despite its heavy subject matter, however, MESTIZX finds a lifeline in communal, celebratory, soul-bearing and movement-inducing music.
With Ben Boye on
keys, autoharp,
and
octatrack
, James McClure on
trumpet
and
synth
, and
bassist
Nate McBride.

My Story
I used to be a very shy girl, lacking confidence and self-esteem. I knew my life would achieve greater goals if I could have more confidence and higher self-esteem. I decided to join the Vancouver Entrepreneurs Toastmasters Club in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and my life has never been the same since.
After I had been in this club for about three years, I was transformed from a shy girl to a multiple award-winning speaker, TEDx coach, public speaking instructor, and VoiceStory speaker. I became a leader in the field of speaking, running my own workshops. I was promoted at work and earned a lot more money than I imagined possible. Most importantly, I have helped so many people to be more confident and use their
POWER ON THE STAGE

I saw the value of public speaking and storytelling because of how it changed my life. Now I’m passionate about using my public speaking and storytelling skills to help people, especially those who are shy like I used to be.

With your help, this year our event will be supporting the
Nanaimo Home Away from Home
project through the
Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island
. Located on the NRGH campus, the Nanaimo Home Away from Home will provide accommodations for out-of-town families whose children are receiving medical care in Nanaimo.
NRGH is currently one of only two hospitals on Vancouver Island with a NICU and specialized pediatric units. More than 50% of pediatric patients come from outside Greater Nanaimo. Caring for a sick child is stressful enough without also being away from home and typical supports. The Nanaimo Home Away from Home will provide much needed amenities for families in an environment that fosters supportive relationships and peer-to-peer connections among families travelling similar paths.
What to expect:
Join us for an evening of food, laughter, networking and fundraising! This event is our biggest and most popular of the year, bringing together a community of amazing women to enjoy a night out and give back. Welcome snacks, games, silent auction, a delicious dinner, prizes and more!
Doors open at 4:45 PM!

About:
Jim Byrnes is a legendary blues icon, an actor of note, and that artist who lights up every stage with songs and stories, tried and true. Jim Byrnes was born in St. Louis, Missouri – that’s blues country. He grew up on the city’s north side. One of the neighbourhood bars had Ike and Tina Turner as the house band. As a teenager going to music clubs, he and his buddy were often the only white people in the place. “We never had any problems. We were too naïve and had too much respect for the music and culture – they knew it, they could tell.”
By age thirteen, Jim was singing and playing blues guitar. His first professional gig was in 1964. Over the years, he has had the great good fortune to appear with a virtual who’s who of the blues. From Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker to Taj Mahal and Robert Cray, Jim has been on the blues highway for 45 years.
