A lovely walk taking in the quiet beauty of both sides of the River Severn and we will include occasional short stops to talk about the extraordinary innovators of times past. Our dogs will enjoy some new smells along the way as we will wander through some world-changing locations and discover a few of the big ideas that changed the world. We might even imagine what the early inventors might have learned from their dogs! Grade of Walk: Easy Length: 2.5 miles Pace: Leisurelywith stops to chat about various historic locations and allow the dogs to sniff Terrain: Mixed: woodland, bridleways and quiet lanes Steps and Stiles: Short flights of steps in several places Dog Friendly: YES Dogs to be kept on leads except when agreed with walk leader. Walk Leader: Paul Green Specific Walk Information: May be muddy in some places Essential Information for Walkers: All walks take place within the Ironbridge Gorge which will naturally include uphill and downhill sections. Please come prepared for the walk, with water, drinks, snacks and lunch as appropriate as it is not possible to purchase items on route. Good walking boots/shoes are essential and be prepared for wet or sunny weather- possibly both in the same day! Children ( Under 18’s ) are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult with parental responsibility and be capable of the distance, pace and duration of the walk. Please allow plenty of time to reach your event, parking can be tricky in the gorge! It is possible to reach Ironbridge via public transport but there are limited services. Join Amber from the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust on a 14-mile tour of the different sites they manage around the Gorge. You will walk through woodlands, heathland and meadows and experience some of the beautiful countryside sites Ironbridge has to offer, as well as getting glimpses of some of its industrial history that survives surrounded by nature. Starting in Coalport, you will walk through Hay wood and Lloyd’s Coppice, heading to Coalbrookdale via Lincoln Hill and Dale Coppice, before exploring the wonderful Benthall Edge and returning along the Severn Valley Way. 46. Gorge-ous Landscapes: 17 miles | Ironbridge Tollhouse

From the Toll House we cross the iron bridge and head along the Wharfage passing the Green Wood centre, towards the vista from Strethill house. We drop back down into Dale Park, following the river before climbing past Marnwood Hall across a series of meadows, to Braggers Hill and on to the outskirts of Little Wenlock. We turn back towards the Gorge, through Coalmoor, then Cherry Tree Hill, to Rough Park and Lodge Field We then cross Madeley Bank into the Crostan and Lloyds Meadow, walking through the woods to Blist Hill Museum. From here we climb to Great Hay Golf Course Hotel, with more great views, before dropping through the meadows & wood to the Silkin Way to re-cross the river at Coalport bridge. Following the old railway line to Maws Craft Centre we return along the Severn Way to the Toll House. Grade of Walk: Moderate Length: 17 miles Pace: Steady Terrain: Mixed - some lanes, paths, field-paths & woodland Steps and Stiles: Yes. Can be fairly steep in places up & down as we progress in & out of the Gorge. From Ironbridge, we follow the old railway towards Coalford, through Lloyd’s Head to Jackfield, uncovering the reasons for, and evidence of, slippage and the various attempts to repair and stabilise the landscape over many years. We cross the river via the Memorial Bridge and return to Ironbridge along the Lloyds. Grade of Walk:Easy Length: 4 miles Pace:Leisurely Terrain:Good paths and tracks, and very few steps. Generally the walk is level with only a few short climbs. Some sections may be muddy. Please be aware that the second half of the walk involves walking along the Lloyds which only has limited footways. Steps and Stiles:Some steps but no stiles. After crossing the Ironbridge we head East along Silkin Way to Coalport. Following the Monarch’s Way past Telford Golf Course, we continue towards Sutton Maddock. After a short break we continue to Apley Farm shop complex where we make another short stop. From here we head to Stockton Church to enter Apley Estate enjoying our lunch stop at the top of Apley Terrace. We continue through the estate to pass Apley Hall and on to Norton. We rejoin the Monarch’s Way and make a short stop at Sutton Maddock Church, before heading to Coalport and taking the Severn Way back to Ironbridge. Grade of Walk: Strenuous Length: 20 miles Pace: Brisk Terrain: Mix of off-road footpaths and roads Steps and Stiles:Yes Dog Friendly: NO Walk Leader: Ian Kelsey Specific Walk Information: Essential Information for Walkers: All walks take place within the Ironbridge Gorge which will naturally include uphill and downhill sections. Please come prepared for the walk. Bringing at least 2 litres of water is recommended along with enough food for 2 snack breaks and a lunch break as we will not be passing anywhere to purchase supplies along the route.
