A Mind of Their Own - Crawley | The Charis Centre
Jun 4, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Crawley
Anxiety levels and struggles with mental health are on the rise in children and young people. But there are ways that you can make a difference and help your children build more resilience and take steps towards healthier mental wellbeing.
A Mind of Their Own
is packed with simple and effective strategies for you to use at home, helping you to better understand what’s going on in your child’s head.
Together with
Katharine Hill and Mark Chester
, featuring interviews with mental health professionals, Dr Rob Waller and Dr Kate Middleton, we’ll explore the science of the mind, and why children act and react the way they do.
You’ll
leave with:
A greater understanding of the pressures affecting your child and the impact this can have on their mental wellbeing
Tools to help your child build resilience that enables them to bounce back from challenges, grow in emotional strength and move forward in their character development
Ways to talk to your child about positive body image
An appreciation of how vital your child’s identity is and strategies to help them become confident in it
Tips to help your child learn to deal with failure and criticism well
The knowledge that negative thought patterns can be rewired to become more positive
What to expect ...
At Care for the Family, we have a dedicated team of people working hard to make sure all our events are high quality, professional and the best they can be.
This event is well-researched, well-rehearsed, well-presented.
Most importantly, it will be worth your time.
Our speakers might know the research and have a breadth of knowledge on the subject, but mainly they’re parents and not perfect ones!
We can’t promise that this evening will make you the world's best parent, but we can promise to lift you up and encourage you on your parenting journey.

About the band:
Swing from Paris are Tomasz Williams (double bass), Andy Bowen (electric guitar), Fenner Curtis (violin), Sam Hughes (acoustic guitar).
They enjoy creating and playing their own arrangements of music they love, mostly inspired by the swing era of the 1930s and 1940s: including music by Gershwin, Piazzolla, Benny Goodman, Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli and the Hot Club of France. They’ve been seen on the BBC’s Hairy Bikers, and have appeared at major jazz festivals including Cheltenham, Brecon and the Django Reinhardt Festival at Samois sur Seine.
The band started out of a chance meeting of Andy Bowen and Fenner Curtis, when they both sat in at a Birmingham University jazz club jam session. Already fans of the music of the guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli, they started a group and began playing regularly across their home county of Gloucestershire.
Following formative years as a dedicated Django Reinhardt ensemble, they widened their repertoire to include many other greats of the era and beyond – and welcomed members Sam Hughes on guitar and Tomasz Williams on double bass in the late 2010s.
Their latest recording together is
I Love
Paris
(2024), available on vinyl, CD and digital.

A deep journey inwards working with the power of our Breath to access altered states of consciousness.
This provides healing and integration of our nervous system, physical and emotional bodies and creates the space to remember who we truly are as whole beings.
As we breathe in a connected way, we come into our own rhythm, we access our bodies own innate healing power.
Our body remembers what our mind forgets.
Our body holds on to past memories, emotions and trauma. When we breathe deep and connected we give ourselves permission to release these suppressed energies from our body, we are able to let go and dissolve all that is no longer ours to hold any more.
And when we do so, we create spaciousness and freedom from within.
This is a personal healing journey.

TKO Summer Volunteer Celebration 2025 | Manning, Oregon (Ingrid's house!)
Jun 14, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
Manning
Please come celebrate at our summer potluck with your trail-keeping friends! Eat, visit, relax with trail keepers on Saturday, June 14th from 11am to 4pm.
We are looking forward to a relaxing afternoon with good food and good company. The picnic will be at Ingrid Henrickson’s home in the coast range. Bring lawn chairs or blankets if you can. We will have a large tent in case of rain.
We will make sure there is plenty of food of all kinds. Please feel free to supplement with any favorite entrees, salads, chips, beverages. Mark Wattier will assist in organizing this.
All trailkeepers and family members are welcome.
Directions:
The address is 51588 NW Hayward Road, which is a gravel road that runs over the hills between Highway 26 (Sunset Highway) and Highway 6 (the Wilson River Highway). The best access to our house is from the Sunset Highway. There is a left turn lane for Hayward Road. We are about 2.5 miles off the Sunset Highway. Look for a cedar-shingled house with blue trim and a gambrel roof.
We are about 6 miles from Highway 6, so access is also possible from the south, but requires a longer drive on gravel. From that direction, take Cedar Canyon Road at the far west end of the Killin Westlands and head NW up the hill.
Ingrid’s phone number is 541-399-0963. Another contact number here is David Burton (Ingrid’s dad) at 503-816-6850.
Parking:
Parking will be available just off the road at the lower end of our field. This area will be marked by a Green TKO hat and a sign. Walk through the wooden gate, and up the path through the orchard. There is also limited parking (and/or drop-off) in our driveway; this area will be available for any trail keepers or guests who have mobility issues.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:
TKO recognizes that the trails we work on travel through the traditional lands of many Indigenous tribes and communities. We are the most recent in a long line of stewards to this land, and it is our responsibility to do so with humility and respect. We are grateful to these tribes and their descendants for being the original and continuing stewards of these spaces, and encourage everyone to go beyond a land acknowledgment by supporting Indigenous communities and organizations in your area.
ACCOMMODATION REQUESTS:
TKO seeks to make our events inclusive of people of all backgrounds and abilities. If you would like to discuss potential accommodations to allow for your participation in this event, please
click here to complete a short Google survey
. TKO staff will then contact you to discuss options. Please note: available accommodations will vary by event and typically need to be requested a minimum of two weeks in advance. If you have any questions, please contact TKO Stewardship Manager Lindsay McIntosh-Tolle at lindsay.mcintosh@trailkeepersoforegon.org.
EQUITY & INCLUSION:
TKO seeks to make Oregon’s trails a place where people can go to connect with nature & one another. Not everyone feels safe or welcome in the outdoors due to issues like racism, bias, and hate. We commit to being part of the solution to this problem and to enact change. Conduct, speech, or expressions that target any individual or group will not be tolerated by TKO.
PERSONAL SAFETY:
Your physical and emotional safety is our number one priority. If a person’s actions or comments make you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, you may: interrupt directly, tell a crew leader, and/or inform TKO staff via the post-event survey.
While TKO no longer requires masking/vaccination for our events, we do support those who choose to mask for their own safety. We ask participants to respect the health of folks who wear masks by distancing or wearing a mask while in close proximity.
