Town House Voices Theatre Company Returns with New Show at the Regency Town House
We’re thrilled to announce that the Town House Voices theatre company is back with a brand new show at the Regency Town House, celebrating the 200th anniversary of Brunswick Square.
'Bricks & Mortar', by Emma Kelly, is a dark comedy that reimagines Dickens' A Christmas Carol set against the backdrop of Thatcher’s Britain in 1989. The story follows a money-driven property mogul who is haunted by spirits that force her to confront the consequences of her actions.
The play delves into themes of affordable housing and social mobility, with a spotlight on local historical figures like Harriet Waller, who rose from scullery maid to guest house owner. It also explores Brighton’s LGBTQI+ communities, the suffragette movement, and the legacy of local rights campaigner Harry Cowley. Tying it all together under the theme of ‘the power of community,’ we ask: what truly makes a home—people or bricks?
Set within the historic Regency Town House, a Grade 1 listed terraced home from the 1820s, the audience will be immersed in various time periods as they journey through this unique space. The show lasts approx. 90 minutes and includes a drink and refreshments at the end.
