Join Tyler Hobbs for the launch of his debut monograph, Order/Disorder. He will be in conversation with Noam Segal, the LG Electronics Associate Curator at the Guggenheim Museum, followed by a Q&A and book signing. Both the Trade Edition and Collector's Edition of Order/Disorder will be available for purchase. PLEASE NOTE: RSVPs are encouraged but not required. Seating is limited and will be first come, first served. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Tyler Hobbs’ debut monograph is one of the first to focus on the work of a generative artist. Contextualizing his art from 2018–2023, Order/Disorder includes works from Hobbs’ solo exhibitions at Unit, London, and Pace, New York, in 2023. Structured around the concept of dualities, the book explores Hobbs’ systematic approaches to art making, the creative relationship between man and machine, computer-led aesthetics, and the interplay of repetition and emergence across long-form generative projects. Order/Disorder features an interview between Hobbs and Hans Ulrich Obrist, artistic director of the Serpentine Galleries, and an essay by Melanie Lenz, curator of digital art at the Victoria & Albert Museum, alongside texts by the artist that introduce each thematically arranged section of plates. Tyler Hobbs is a visual artist from Austin, Texas, working with algorithms, plotters, and paint. His work focuses on computational aesthetics, how they are shaped by the biases of modern computer hardware and software, and how they relate to and interact with the natural world around us. By taking a generative approach to art making, his work explores the possibilities of creation at scale and the powers of emergence.
Hobbs’ most notable project, Fidenza, is a series of 999 algorithmically generated works comprising one of the most sought-after fine art NFT collections. His work has been exhibited internationally, with recent solo exhibitions at Unit, London (2023) and Pace Gallery, New York (2023). Hobbs’ pieces have been included in numerous events by leading auction houses such as Christie’s, Phillips and Sotheby’s. Notable public institutions holding his work include the Los Angeles County Museum of Art , San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Art and Light (Kansas). To be Haitian is to know that our freedom is a birthright. To be Black is to know the taste, smell, sound, and depth of this freedom, and to carry it in our blood and bones. To be Black and Haitian, today, is to reconcile this truth with the reality of loss, grief, and chaos, as well as an unwavering sense of hope and desire. Eritaj: The Story of the Land and the Voice of the Ancestors attempts to expose the nature of this duality and the process of such a reconciliation for the self, for the family, and for the community in our day-to-day lives. Eritaj: The Story of the Land and the Voice of the Ancestors uses dance and embodied storytelling to revisit and reframe common scenarios of displacement, poverty, abuse, and misery often associated with Haiti’s descent to instability and insecurity. Eritaj does this while uniquely highlighting the lived connections between Haitians and other communities of the African Diaspora

Exploring the Audubon Mural Project: NYC Street Art for Endangered Birds | The Chipped Cup (Outside)
Nov 17, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
New York
If you walk around the Northern Manhattan neighborhood of Hamilton Heights, you're bound to stumble upon beautiful artworks on seemingly every corner. But unlike other art collectives around New York City featuring an eclectic range of themes, this one focuses exclusively on birds — and not just any birds, but those North American species that could become extinct if nothing is done to address climate change. From stunning designs on storefront security gates to oversized murals covering an entire side of a building, it's time to explore one of the country's most ambitious and environmentally-focused street art initiatives, captivating birders and non-birders alike. Join New York Adventure Club for an on-the-ground exploration of the Audubon Mural Project, a collaboration between the National Audubon Society and art dealer/collector Avi Gitler that aims to create murals of 314 climate-threatened North American birds — mostly throughout the neighborhood of Hamilton Heights, where famed American ornithologist John James Audubon once lived. Led by licensed New York City tour guide Leigh Hallingby, our tour of this incredible collective will include: A brief introduction to the New York neighborhood of Hamilton Heights and impact of former resident / landowner John James Audubon (1785-1851)The origin story the Audubon Mural Project, which to-date, includes nearly 100 murals depicting over 138 bird speciesA close look at dozens of murals throughout the neighborhood of Hamilton Heights, along with commentary around the artists and their visionSee you there! *Please bring a water bottle and comfortable pair of shoes as we’ll be doing a lot of walking! **Our experience will conclude at Broadway and W. 164th St. About Leigh Leigh is a licensed NYC tour guide who specializes in Harlem, Morningside Heights, and the Upper West Side. She is passionate about exploring all five boroughs and beyond on foot, mostly through organized walking tours. Leigh is retired from a 36-year career as a non-profit librarian in New York City. She loves doing research about the neighborhoods in which she gives tours and sharing the information about them with attendees. Leigh is a feminist, collector, genealogist, and lover of arts, culture, and travel. She lives on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Testimonials The event guide Leigh Hallingby was super — very knowledgeable as well as a lively conversationalist. Her tour was both interesting and fun. Although it’s a longer tour than most, it never dragged — a testament to how engaged she kept us all. Highly recommended! -Deb Enjoyable and interesting. -Shalom The tour guide Leigh was outgoing, informative, safe, and fun. I loved the detailed sheet provided that outlined the birds, artists, and more; I’ve kept it for keepsakes. The overview before we started also was nice. I appreciated the number of pieces we saw, making the event well worth my time rather than being a rush-through. Leigh answered all questions, was engaging, and made the event even better than I could’ve imagined. I learned a lot and had an unforgettable and joyous Sunday walking from each bird art piece to the next. The attention to detail and extra info on the artists and pieces made it all worthwhile. Thank you, too, for still hosting the event despite the only attendees being my friend and me. It meant a lot that Leigh still showed up for us two, and we got such a personal tour on a beautiful Sunday. I cannot recommend this walking tour enough, it’s a special one. -Megan Disclaimer Event takes place rain or shine. By attending a New York Adventure Club experience, you accept our terms of service. Behind each group of works in Danni’s oeuvre, there is a story supported by intense research with colors, materials and their visual impact. mother-of-pearl and galalith, an early plastic (1900-1930), are two of the artist’s favorite and dominant materials, but she also combines wood, copper, enamel, threads or found objects to create her art pieces. JB Jones is an independent jewelry creative specializing in marketing, storytelling, event curation and production. In 2018, Jones co-founded NYC Jewelry Week with Bella Neyman. In 2010, she switched gears and launched a street art gallery and emerging artists’ platform, The Site Unscene. She curated the first West Coast exhibition of the NYC's graffiti crew TC-5 in LA, and was a leader in helping to establish street art as a legitimate force in the city’s gallery scene. In 2023, she penned a monthly column on contemporary jewelry for the Zing Report. Her work has appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, WWD, Juxtapoz and more. The Jewelry Library (TJL) is a collaborative space curated for jewelry people by jewelry people. Founded in 2018, TJL hosts a wide range of exhibitions, talks, and events all across the jewelry-spectrum, collaborating with both contemporary and vintage gallerists, artists, and collectors, as well as storytellers, historians, makers, and wearers. Along with an archive, library, and gallery space–which houses the TJL collection of books and jewelry–there is a penthouse space, The Great Room @ The Jewelry Library, for larger community gatherings. In early 2025, TJL will be opening a multi-faceted ground floor space in the Chelsea-Nomad neighborhood. Each November, NYC Jewelry Week proudly presents ‘The Week,’ a 7-day celebration dedicated to the art of jewelry.
