Purple Mountain Majesty is an invitational exhibition happening at Cottonwood Center for the Arts in Colorado Springs. This exhibition, presented in partnership with the Purple Mountain Group at Morgan Stanley, showcases a collection of works by local artists that celebrate the iconic Pikes Peak. The exhibition is inspired by the awe-inspiring experience of poet and writer Katherine Lee Bates, who, in 1893, ascended Pikes Peak and was captivated by its resplendence and breathtaking view. It was this experience that led her to compose the beloved poem "America the Beautiful," with Pikes Peak being immortalized in the line "For purple mountain majesties, above the fruited plain..." The Purple Mountain Group at Morgan Stanley commissioned this collection of artworks to honor Pikes Peak's status as "America's Mountain" and its deep significance to the local community and the nation as a whole.
