Tanenbaum Lecture with Trevor Paglen | George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre, ENG
Apr 1, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED
George
Join acclaimed artist and researcher Trevor Paglen for a thought-provoking lecture at The Image Centre. Known for his deep investigations into surveillance, artificial intelligence, and visual culture, Paglen examines how photography’s uneasy relationship with “reality” is shifting into the realm of the Weird. As AI transforms how images are made and seen, photography enters an uncanny space—where visuality itself merges with hallucination, psychological operations, and digital sorcery. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from one of today’s leading voices on the unseen infrastructures shaping our world.
The Tanenbaum Lecture Series is the most established and distinguished lecture series on photography and media arts in Canada. Launched in 1975 within Ryerson University's School of Image Arts with a talk by W. Eugene Smith, the series has invited hundreds of leading photographers, video artists, filmmakers, curators and theorists to speak about their work to Toronto's rich audience for image arts. Among the speakers have been Berenice Abbott, Vince Aletti, Dawoud Bey, Stan Brakhage, William Eggleston, Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander, Alfredo Jaar, Sally Mann, Martha Rosler, Jamel Shabazz, Michael Snow, Thomas Struth, and John Szarkowski, among many others. This lecture series was made possible by a generous gift from Howard & Carole Tanenbaum. LOCATIONToronto Metropolitan University
