Join one of our favorite local authors, Misa Sugiura, for a deep dive into the thrilling finale of the Shinto inspired Momo Arashima series – MOMO ARASHIMA DUELS THE QUEEN OF DEATH. Momo Arashima is half goddess and half human—torn between two worlds. But with her friends Danny, Ryleigh, Jin and Niko by her side, she’s finally starting to find a place where she belongs. Too bad none of that matters when Izanami, the treacherous goddess of death, threatens the life of someone Momo loves and forces her into a terrible bargain. Izanami is after the Jewel of the Heart, an artifact that will help her finally escape the land of the dead...and she wants Momo to get it for her. Along with her friends, Momo must face fire demons, fanged mermaids, and spiders as big as horses. But even if they succeed, what will Momo do? Sacrifice the person most precious to her, or hand over the Jewel and unleash Izanami on the world? Misa Sugiura’sancestors include a poet, a priestess, a samurai, and a stowaway. She was born and raised in Chicagoland but eventually found her way to her true home in Northern California, where she lives and writes under a giant oak tree with her husband, two sons, and a cat named Mouse. Momo Arashima Steals the Sword of the Wind is her first middle-grade novel and was inspired by the gods and monsters of her parents’ home country, Japan. Information Source: Books Inc. | eventbrite

Her passion for flamenco blossomed in childhood, thanks to her supportive family, particularly her aunt Encarnita, who recognized her artistic talent. At the age of 8, Eva moved to a new life in Spain with her parents. By 11, she began flamenco lessons, showing exceptional promise. After training in various cities, including a pivotal time in Seville, she formed her own company in 1998 at just 28 years old, quickly gaining international recognition. Eva’s career is marked by numerous accolades and global performances. She became the first flamenco company to perform at the Sydney Opera House and has graced stages such as the Teatro de la Villa in Paris, Sadler’s Wells in London, the City Center in New York, and venues across the world, from Tokyo to Dubai. Her work has been shaped by renowned mentors, including Mario Maya and Enrique “El Canastero,” and she’s collaborated with artists like Mario Maya, Merche Esmerelda, and Joaquin Cortés. Her contributions to flamenco extend beyond the stage; Eva has been a key figure in numerous cultural events, including performances at the Bienal de Sevilla, the Teatro Español, and collaborations with directors such as Carlos Saura in the film Flamenco. In 2012, after a brief hiatus for motherhood, Eva returned with the acclaimed show AY! and continued to enchant audiences in London with Apariencias in 2017. Today, Eva Yerbabuena remains one of the most influential and respected figures in contemporary flamenco, known for her profound artistry and groundbreaking choreography. Dylan’s personal coming-out story blossomed into a platform for advocacy and empowerment for trans people all over the world. Through her “Days of Girlhood” series, she connected with followers by exploring what it means to be a girl, from experimenting with makeup to story times to spilling the tea about laser hair removal, while never shying away from discussing the transphobia she faced online. Nevertheless, she was determined to be a beacon of positivity. But shortly after she celebrated day 365 of being a girl, it all came screeching to a halt when an innocuous post sparked a media firestorm and right-wing backlash she couldn’t have expected. Despite the vitriolic press and relentless paparazzi, Dylan was determined to remain loud and proud. In Paper Doll: Notes from a Late Bloomer, Dylan pulls back the curtain of her “It Girl” lifestyle with a witty and intimate reflection of her life pre- and post-transition. She covers everything from her first big break in theater to the first time her dad recognized her as a girl to how she handled scandals, cancellations, and . . . tucking. It’s both laugh-out-loud funny and powerfully honest—and is a love letter to everyone who stands up for queer joy. ABOUTDylan Mulvaney: Dylan Mulvaney (she/they) is a trans actress, comic, and creator of the viral TikTok series Days of Girlhood, which received over 1 billion views across all platforms. For her Day 365 live show, Mulvaney partnered with the Trevor Project to raise nearly $200,000 for LGBTQ+ youth crisis support. She was crowned 30 under 30 by Forbes, Woman of the Year by Attitude magazine, Out 100, THEM Now Award, a Webby Special Achievement Award, among others. Mulvaney was invited by President Joe Biden to speak at the White House about trans rights. Pre-pandemic, Dylan attended the Cinncinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and played Elder White in the Book of Mormon Broadway musical. She now lives in LA, where she works to bring trans stories to the mainstream. Information Source: Books Inc. | eventbrite

Niall Williams moved to New York in 1980 where he married Christine Breen, whom he had met while she was also a student at UCD. His first job in New York was opening boxes of books in Fox & Sutherland's Bookshop in Mount Kisco. In 1985, he and Chris left America to attempt to make lives as writers in Ireland. On April 1st they moved to the cottage in west Clare that Chris's grandfather had left eighty years before. They have two adult children, a dog named Finn and a cat called Thanks. ABOUT THE BOOK Doctor Jack Troy was born and raised in Faha, but his responsibilities for the sick and his care for the dying mean he has always been set apart from the town. His eldest daughter, Ronnie, has grown up in her father's shadow, and remains there, having missed one chance at love - and passed up another offer of marriage from an unsuitable man. But in the Advent season of 1962, as the town readies itself for Christmas, Ronnie and Doctor Troy's lives are turned upside down when a baby is left in their care. As the winter passes, father and daughter's lives, the understanding of their family, and their role in their community are changed forever. Set over the course of one December in the same village as Williams' beloved This Is Happiness, Time of the Child is a tender return to Faha for readers who know its charms, and a heartwarming welcome to new readers entering for the very first time.
