Marking Time: Art in the Age of Mass Incarceration | The Chapel at Dix Park
Nov 20, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Richardson
Marking Time: Art in the Age of Mass Incarceration with Dr. Nicole Fleetwood Presented in partnership with Small School Raleigh, this lecture featuring Dr. Nicole R. Fleetwood will discuss how art can heal and humanize in the age of mass incarceration. Dr. Nicole Fleetwood will present her groundbreaking research on contemporary culture, art, and the carceral state, including interviews with currently and formerly incarcerated artists. Each initiative of this ongoing project foregrounds the creativity, activism, coalition building, and visions of freedom of directly impacted people. Working with meager supplies and in the harshest conditions, imprisoned artists find ways to resist the brutality and isolation that prisons engender. Their innovative practices reveal how to create, to forge relations, and to embody and represent one’s life under unimaginable conditions. They provide visions and blueprints to transforming society. Dr. Fleetwood will share her unique insights into how incarcerated individuals use art to convey the visual culture of imprisonment and its influence on contemporary art today. Asbury Revival Documentary Screening | YWAM Chico - Youth With A Mission
May 29, 2025 (UTC-8)ENDED

Welcome to the Asbury Revival Film Premiere! Did you miss your chance to visit the Asbury Revival? Were you curious as to what it was all about, why over 100,000 people from all over the world visited a small university in Kentucky in the span of two weeks? Was it hype or an authentic revival? In early 2023, I flew from California to Kentucky on very little sleep, to stand in line for 8 hours, just to get into an auditorium to worship Jesus. I joined thousands of others, eager to experience something that felt different—authentic, humble, and deeply transformative. This film captures the final days of the revival, but it also goes deeper, offering a rare glimpse into the heart of the Asbury Revival. In a time where division seems bleak, this revival reminded us of the power of unity and the beauty of sincere spiritual community. I was so moved by what I saw, that I felt compelled to document it so I could share it with you. Film Synopsis: What began as a simple chapel service at Asbury University two years ago turned into an unexpected, global spiritual movement. When a group of 30 students stayed behind to worship after the service ended, their devotion sparked a revival that drew over 100,000 people from around the world to Wilmore, Kentucky. This film captures the powerful stories of those who were there on the final day, just before the university closed the doors to non-students. After premiering the film we will have a short time of sharing about Asbury from people who were able to visit during the revival. Mark your calendars and tell your friends!
