This 5 week mechanic's course offers participants an introduction to all the major systems on the bicycle through 15 hours of course instruction. Structured classes are taught by experienced bicycle mechanics and combined with supervised hands-on practice. METAL FLOORWORK WITH GUSHY HORROR IN SECONDS FUNDRAISER JAN 13 at 5:00-6:00pm We'll be moving between slow and fast, with emphasis on Metal Musicality for our floorwork choreography. Horror in Seconds: Horror in Seconds launched in November 2023 with remarkable success and was described on The Georgia Straight as Vancouver's most unique Film Festival. It revolutionized the concept of Film Festivals by creating a platform for underrepresented artists to unleash their creativity using their smartphones Horror in Seconds aims at broadening representation, accessibility, and breaking the financial barriers BIPOC artists face. Relying solely on the power of visual storytelling to evoke fear, the Festival showcases bite-sized shorts filmed on the participants’ smartphones and with no dialogue. By limiting the shorts’ submissions to 60 seconds or less, the Festival subverts the traditional ways of storytelling and encourages the emerging artists to unleash their creativity with some spine-chilling stories. The festival aims to make filmmaking accessible while celebrating the intersection of culture, creativity, and horror. By offering a platform for BIPOC voices, Horror in Seconds fosters inclusivity and empowers the next generation of storytellers. This isn’t just a film festival—it’s an immersive experience where film, dance, drag, and performance art intersect in a unique and innovative way to highlight various local talents in multiple art forms. Doaa Magdy is a Radical Visionary, a Multifaceted Creative, Filmmaker, Yoga Teacher and the Founder of Horror in Seconds, Canada's first BIPOC Horror Film Festival. With two M.A. degrees in film, she speaks the language of cinema fluently, particularly in the realm of horror,earning her the title of 'Jordan Peele's future competition'. Her creative prowess extends beyond the screen; she's a force for impactful change wherever she treads. In this beginner friendly workshop, we will be hand making a leather notebook with reclaimed leather, an assortment of paper, and some funky hardware. During the workshop, we will learn about the history of leather work within Indigenous communities including the ways hides have played a significant part in keeping Indigenous communities alive. Participants will get to work with a variety of coloured leather, handpicked hardware, and an array of colourful thread and customize their book with rivets, eyelets and other fun materials. We will go through the process of making your book by hand through different types of paper folding and binding techniques. You will a pattern and learn how to bind in different ways—all while learning how to safely work with leather tools. You will also receive a zine with a step-by-step guide on how to make the notebook of your choosing and a few small tools that you can take home with you!
