SELAH The Gathering 2025 | Bristol Beacon
Jun 14, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
Following the amazing time we've had at both the Men's gathering in June and the Women's in September, we are pleased to announce that the next SELAH gathering is set for June 2025!
The Lord has continued to speak to us about drawing near, of having intimate communion with him and taking that ‘Selah’ moment. So we are very excited to announce our next SELAH event will be happening on 14th June 2025. God has beautifully bought together everything. We have our guest speaker coming all the way from 'Christ for all nations church' in Florida, Eric Gilmour. We are very much looking forward to his teaching and encouragement. Along with our very own Pastor Craig Bennett who shared at the last Selah men's gathering, plus worship from Jamie Hill, Lucy Burden, Jules jones, Andy Oates and Harvey Phillpot.
This year's event is going to bring the men and the women together as one. As such we have found a bigger venue that is easy for people to access, The Lantern Hall in the The Beacon, Bristol. With Parking just across the road, so very easy access.
We all have extremely busy lives that carry many responsibilities, which can ultimately impact on quality time with the Lord and with each other. Selah 2025 aims to bring together sons and daughters of God, to be ministered to and to minister to one another.
Therefore, we want to provide a space that this is not primarily an evangelistic event, but a space where we can simply pause and be refreshed. We are continually encouraged to build one another up and serve one another in the New Testament. Throughout the day, we will have the chance to worship God together in fellowship and hear from his word.
We believe that God is ready to do a new thing in our lives and reignite a fire within the church. However, we must be willing to make space to be a part of it.

Behind-the-scenes talk: Ocean with Silverback Films | Bristol Aquarium
Jun 15, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
OCEAN WITH DAVID ATTENBOROUGH
takes viewers on a breathtaking journey showing there is nowhere more vital for our survival, more full of life, wonder, or surprise, than the ocean.
In the film Attenborough reveals how his lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery. Through spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs, kelp forests and the open ocean, Attenborough shares why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing.

Yet the story is one of optimism, with Attenborough pointing to inspirational stories from around the world to deliver his greatest message: the ocean can recover to a glory beyond anything anyone alive has ever seen.
In this exclusive talk the films field producer, Olly Scholey, will be showing scenes from the film in spectacular iMax, as well as offering a unique insights into how the film was made. A message from our Chef Celia:
“Hello, my name is Celia and I am from Hong Kong. In a previous life I worked in a stressful corporate career, but I always longed to live my passion: cooking. So, I finally found the courage to quit and now I have been teaching cookery classes for over seven years. I’m still motivated to explore and push my boundaries in the kitchen.
I would say my style is East meets West. I enjoy mixing and matching ingredients to create more complex and unique flavours. I try to use local, seasonal ingredients so that my cooking is fresh and economical and people learn what their local ingredients are.
I am also a food stylist: I want my food to not only taste good but look beautiful too.
I love the common language of food: how it brings people and cultures together, and how we can share recipes and learn new tastes and skills. But most of all, I love how eating together makes us happy.
I look forward to cooking and eating with you!”

Stories that Inspire - June | Bishopston Library
Jun 17, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
Welcome to
Stories That Inspire
. Join us at
Bishopston Library
for a morning discussing books you've loved, and practising journal techniques to leave you feeling motivated to write more. Are you ready to discover the inner writer within you? Or have you had ideas about writing a book? The Friends of Bishopston Library are co-hosting the next event in the series of the writing group and book club with a difference, called “Stories That Inspire”
As well as talking about inspiring books, we will cover practical tools to help you practise writing, think and plan your stories, creating a safe space for you to share some of your writing, if you wish.
If you love the idea of writing more, come and join us.
One participant from the last month's circle said, "I really enjoyed the meeting and left feeling that perhaps I can put pen to paper after all!" Sharing our stories is a great way to share your expertise and life lessons, which is a gift for people following in your footsteps.
This supportive group is designed for you especially if your stories are linked to the work you do or a change you'd like to see in the world. Perhaps you will gain confidence in the power behind sharing them - even if it's not in a book. Poetry, blogs, podcasts and videos are other creative routes to reach your audience.
Debs is hosting this group to create an enthusiastic, supportive community of people who love books and want to explore how creativity helps support positive thinking and wellbeing. Do bring and share a book you love or one which changed your life.
Some of the books we talked about before are shown in the image below.

Jun 18, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
Detroit's Slum Village have carried the old-school, funk, and soul-filled hip-hop torch of genre pioneers A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and the Pharcyde. Originally comprising rappers Baatin and T3 and producer/rapper J Dilla, the group debuted in the early '90s as Ssenepod, later changing their name to Slum Village for the release of their debut, Fan-Tas-Tic, Vol. 1, in 1997. Over the course of almost a dozen efforts, Slum Village issued their highest-charting album, Trinity (Past, Present and Future), in 2002, peaking on the Hot 100 in 2004 with the single "Selfish," featuring Kanye West and John Legend. Their lineup has experienced significant changes due to the exit of J Dilla (2001), the death of Baatin (2009), and the departure of Elzhi (2010). Slum Village became a duo in the 2010s with T3 joined by producer Young RJ. Assorted compilations and projects such as Yes! (2015) and The Source (2019), along with performances well into the 2020s, have followed since then.

A message from our Chef Amal:
“My name is Amal and I am from Cairo in Egypt. Everyone has heard of ancient Egypt and the pyramids that have made it a tourist destination, but people may not know so much about our delicious cuisine. Egyptian people are happy and welcoming and love to cook and share food.
I started to cook when I was 10 with my mum and grandma. The first thing I made was Egyptian flatbread. I love to make Koshary, which is a mixture of types of pasta with rice and spices that is served with special sauces and is very popular in Egypt.
I used to run a restaurant in Cairo, mainly serving Koshary and falafel and other Egyptian specialities which I teach in my classes. I take every opportunity I can to cook. I volunteer in the community in Bristol where I cook traditional recipes that I have brought with me from my country and I look forward to sharing them with you.”

ADHD Business Community | Bambalan
Jun 19, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
Welcome to the ADHD Business Community event!
There are a disproportionate number of people in business who have or think they have ADHD. If you run your own business or work within the corporate world, there are huge strengths but also continual struggles from having ADHD.
Where do you go when you want to talk about your ADHD? Currently, there aren't many options available to us.
We are setting up the ADHD Network Community (Bristol), for people with ADHD to network, share tips and experiences, and discuss challenges. We will meet up for dinner and great conversation in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
Some adults with ADHD have very successful careers. Others may struggle with a variety of challenges, including poor communication skills, distractibility, procrastination, and difficulty managing complex projects. We find that most people are somewhere in the middle.
Risk-taking comes naturally to many people with ADHD. Whether driven by boredom or a need for change and new things, people with ADHD simply gravitate toward the new and exciting. Our ability to look at the bigger picture and come up with innovative and exciting ideas makes us great in business. We just sometimes need a bit of support.

An important role of the Parent Carer Forum is to hear about the experiences of parent carers in Bristol. We would like to hear from you about your experiences with SEND services so that we can be sure that your voice is heard and that we can shape the future of SEND services together.
