WARLUKURLANGU | The Art of Yuendumu | Earlywork
Mar 8, 2025 (UTC+8)ENDED
Terrace
Warlukurlangu Artists is situated at Yuendumu, Northern Territory and is one of the longest running and most successful Aboriginal owned art centres in Central Australia having opened in 1985. Artitja Fine Art Gallery has been in a productive and mutually respected partnership with the centre for over two decades, and are delighted to be hosting the visit of art centre Manager Cecilia Alfonso AOM for the opening weekend of the exhibition. This event is part of the WARLUKURLANGU | The Art of Yuendumu exhibition which runs between 8-30th March in South Fremantle, and is a rare opportunity to hear what it takes to operate and guide an art centre which is located in remote Australia, and how the daily challenges and productivity are met. Warlukurlangu Artists has developed an international reputation and is also the home of the hugely succesful Desert Dogs program headed by art centre co-Manager Gloria Morales AOM. This is a great opportunity to hear about the program and its rise to national prominence. Gallery Manager Anna Kanaris will interview Cecilia Alfonso in what promises to be an informative, inspiring and educational discussion. ArtNetdlr Artist Talk | JOANNA KIDNEY | dlr LexIcon
Mar 8, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Terrace
Joanna Kidney was born in Dublin and is based in Co. Wicklow, Ireland. Her practice considers the immensity and the mystery of being human. It is a web of interrelated ideas around consciousness, perception, temporality and holism. Through drawing, painting and installation, her work offers open, poetic prompts and a contemplative space. Joanna's paintings are process-based rather than representational. They emerge through rhythmic mark-making with gradual shifts and inflections, like blocks of music. Line is prominent, and as Maeve Mulrennan notes, her way of painting is close to drawing. It is also close to dance in that it is so closely based on repeated movement and variation. The often unconscious repetition of line is, for the painter, as much about muscle memory as it is for the dancer. Aidan Dunne 'The Irish Times' In addition to exhibitions in New York, Germany, New Mexico, and Virginia, Joanna has had a number of solo exhibitions throughout Ireland. She is the recipient of a Cooper Foundation Grant; funding from the Arts Council of Ireland and Wicklow County Council; and an RHA Studio Award, among others. International residencies include time in Kiðjaberg, Iceland and Brigham Young University, Utah. She teaches in Ireland and Internationally at Colleges in the USA and The Netherlands. She is an annual presenter and tutor at the International Encaustic Conference and Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Co. Mayo. Her Encaustic Painting Workshops are supported by R&F Handmade Paints, USA. Joanna’s work is in many collections including Allied Irish Banks; The Ballinglen Museum of Art; The Central Bank of Ireland; Department of the Environment, Northern Ireland; Fleschmann Hilliard PR; Lee Hotels; and O’Connor Sutton Cronin Engineering, as well as private collections in Ireland, USA, UK, Spain, France, Switzerland.

Square Pegs | Big Fork Theatre
Mar 9, 2025 (UTC+10)ENDED
Terrace
Square Pegs is a split bill stand-up comedy show by Georgie Row and Louisa Jones. As two (neurodivergent) thirty-somethings, Louisa and Georgie each bring their own take on the decade. The show addresses the highs and lows of new motherhood, tales from a career in HR, dating, and an addiction to health fads that promise quick fixes with minimal effort. This show brings the laughs with a mix of the strikingly relatable and utterly unhinged. Louisa is a comedian, writer and improviser based in Brisbane who has written and performed in the Anywhere Festival, Brisbane Fringe Festival and Brisbane Comedy Festival. She spent two months in the United States in 2023, training at iO Theatre and Second City as well as performing stand-up comedy in Chicago and New York. Louisa appears regularly on the Big Fork Theatre stage and Brisbane stand-up scene. Georgie is a comedian and writer from Brisbane. An ex-lawyer with a background in theatre performance and direction, she has also written and produced sketch comedy. Georgie has undertaken training with the National Institute of Dramatic Art and the Cours Florent theatre school in Paris. She appears regularly on the Brisbane stand-up scene. Together, Georgie and Louisa bring you a comedy hour that will keep you wildly entertained, whether you're preparing for, living in or fondly remembering the exciting (and often confusing) ride that is your thirties.
