All materials are provided but if you have a favourite set of paints or brushes you want to bring, please do! Watercolours aren't really messy but it's always best to wear painting suitable clothes! Hot drinks and cake provided. I really want young people to enjoy art (I'm a trained primary and early years teacher) so children who are interested in art are welcome if age 8 and over. However the class is designed for adults so children up to age of 14 must be supervised by an adult carer who is responsible for their behaviour. If they disrupt the class I'm afraid you will have to leave. I do hope you understand. (If you want me to run some classes for chuildren, please discuss separately with me!)

An Evening with Jojo Moyes - We All Live Here | The Holroyd Community Theatre
Feb 13, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Weston
Join us for an evening with Sunday Times bestselling author Jojo Moyes as she talks about her new novel We All Live Here. Jojo Moyes brings us a fresh, contemporary story of a woman and her unruly blended family. Welcome to the Kennedy household: Lila wrote a bestseller about keeping your marriage alive, before discovering her ex was playing happy families with another woman. A woman she sees everyday at school pick-up. Bill, her stepdad, moved in after Lila’s mum died. He’s kind, old-fashioned and driving her absolutely nuts. Celie, Lila’s eldest, hates school. Hates it so much she’s stopped going. Her mother’s fine with that – because she doesn’t know yet. Violet is nine and sings age-inappropriate rap songs, laughs at fart jokes and Lila dearly hopes she’ll never, ever change. And Truant the dog has just bitten the American actor who’s suddenly landed on the Kennedys' doorstep.
This is Gene – Lila’s estranged father, and no one’s idea of a role model. He walked out on Lila and her mum years ago – and wherever he goes domestic discord follows. Because Gene’s presence changes things in unexpected ways. Soon the girls discover a kindred spirit in a man always chasing life’s joy. Bill even loosens up. And Lila finds herself, astonishingly, dating. Something is happening to the Kennedy household – but what is it?
And will it break, or save, their family? Event Format: Talk, followed by audience Q&A and a book signing. Tickets: £12 (admits one, redeemable against signed copy of We All Live Here) or £22 (admits one, includes signed copy of We All Live Here) Venue: The Holroyd Community Theatre is accessed off the Gledrid junction of the A5 north of Oswestry and is sign posted off Station Road (left turn before railway crossing). An Evening with Reeta Chakrabarti - Finding Belle | The Holroyd Community Theatre
May 14, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Weston
Join us for an evening with journalist and Chief Presenter for BBC news, Reeta Chakrabarti, as she talks about her career and her debut novel Finding Belle. What will it take to uncover her past? A lost child. When Mivvi is young, her mother Belle is a puzzle: beautiful, troubled, and, terrifyingly, increasingly disconnected from the world. A displaced mother. Belle came to England upon her marriage, a whirlwind romance from the beaches of Mombasa to the English suburbs. But far from friends and family, her life and love affair began to crumble. A family secret. As Mivvi grows up in the shadow of her mother's illnesses and her father's absences, she must reconnect the pieces that her mother scattered. Can she uncover the secrets clouding their past – and in doing so rewrite her own story? Travelling from the beaches of Mombasa to the suburbs of England and then on to the teeming streets of Kolkata, a powerful story of mothers and daughters, betrayal and madness and a child who must forge her own identity. We're thrilled to be hosting this event with Reeta to celebrate the publication of her debut novel and look forward to welcoming her to Oswestry to tell her story!
