Leonardo Drew in conversation with Ekow Eshun | Clore Studio, South London Gallery
May 30, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
London
Join artist Leonardo Drew and writer and curator Ekow Eshun in conversation. They will discuss the themes and issues addressed in Drew’s work.
Known for his explosive sculptural works, Leonardo Drew creates reflective abstract pieces that play on the tension between order and chaos. Transforming and eroding materials by hand in the studio, he explores the cyclical nature of life and decay.
ABOUT EKOW ESHUN
Ekow Eshun is a writer and curator. He is Chairman of the Fourth Plinth, overseeing Britain’s foremost public art programme and the former Director of the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London. Described by Vogue as ‘the most inspired - and inspiring - curator in Britain’, he has staged acclaimed exhibitions internationally and was awarded the Association for Art History’s Curatorial Prize 2023. He is a contributor to publications including Vogue, the New York Times, Financial Times and the Guardian and is the author of books including, most recently, The Strangers: Five Black Men and the Worlds That Made Them, longlisted for the Gordon Burn prize and the Jhalak prize. He was a judge for the Turner Prize 2024 and a member of the jury for the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2024.
ABOUT LEONARDO DREW
Leonardo Drew’s works have been shown nationally and internationally, and are included in numerous public and private collections. Public institutions include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington DC; and Tate, London, among others. Drew also collaborated with Merce Cunningham on the production of “Ground Level Overlay”. New York Times art critic Roberta Smith describes his large reliefs as “pocked, splintered, seemingly burned here, bristling there, unexpectedly delicate elsewhere. An endless catastrophe seen from above. The energies intimated in these works are beyond human control, bigger than all of us”. Drew currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York and San Antonio, Texas.

History of Horror Walk | Clermont Hotel Group
May 30, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
London
A guided walk exploring the history of horror and its relationship to London’s West End. Gothic novels and their theatrical and cinematic interpretations, the writers, the actors, the directors, from silent shockers through the horrors of the Hammer era to modern day classics such as Last Night in Soho.
Step into the shadowy corridors of London's West End with David Turnbull, a horror writer and qualified London tour guide, on our "History of Horror in the West End" walking tour. This spine-tingling journey delves into the chilling depths of gothic horror literature and its indelible mark on cinema and theatre. From the fog-laden tales of Dracula to the split personalities of Jekyll and Hyde, and the haunting allure of The Portrait of Dorian Gray, explore the streets that inspired these timeless nightmares.
Our tour unravels the macabre threads that bind classic gothic novels to their adaptations on both stage and screen. Discover the origins of Penny Dreadfuls, the birth of horror in silent cinema, and the Londoners who transformed into the monstrous icons of Universal Studios. Learn about the city's role in shaping stories of iconic villains and victims—from the werewolves that roam its alleys to the notorious Necktie Strangler.
As we navigate the West End's eerie backstreets, David will introduce you to the lesser-known horrors that lurk in London’s literary history, such as the forgotten bestseller that outsold Dracula and became one of the first horror tales visualised on film. The cultural impact of these stories is immense, offering a lens into the fears and fascinations of society across different eras.
Highlights of the tour include visits to key filming locations that brought these ghoulish tales to life, including the legendary Hammer House—the beating heart of the studio that catapulted Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing to stardom. Engage with the controversies and artistic inspirations behind the novels and their cinematic renditions.
By the end of the tour, you'll not only gain insights into the spectral history of London's entertainment district but also leave with a curated list of must-read novels and must-watch films to continue your exploration of the horror genre. Join us for an unforgettable exploration of fear and fiction, where every corner tells a story, and every shadow could hide an untold horror.
Start: Charing Cross Station
Duration: 90 mins
End: Piccadilly Circus

As part of this super fun workshop event Neill will introduce children to his gloriously sweet and funny characters including Sprinkles, the leader of the Squad; Jammyboi, who spreads stickiness EVERYWHERE, and Spronky, who is bizarrely unconventional! We will also meet the arch-nemeses of the donuts . . . the bagels, who are secretly plotting Donut Squad’s doom! Neill will even share lots of tips & tricks on creating your own comics, and he will lead a live draw-a-long! Children will also have the chance to put questions to Neill during this special event.
