Meet Ben Aaronovitch in Leeds! | Waterstones Leeds

Jul 10, 2025 (UTC+1)
Leeds
Arts
Literary Arts
We're so excited to have Ben Aaronovitch joining us on the 10th of July for a daytime signing to celebrate the release of Stone and Sky ! Stone and Sky is going to be the tenth book in the bestselling Rivers of London series and it's going to be set in Scotland! Detective Sergeant Peter Grant takes a much-needed holiday up in Scotland. And he'll need one when this is over. If more's the merrier, then it's ecstatic as his partner Beverley, their young twins, his mum, dad, his dad's band and their dodgy manager all tag along. Even his boss, DCI Thomas Nightingale, takes in the coastal airs as he trains Peter's cousin Abigail in the arcane arts. And they'll need them too, because Scotland's Granite City has more than its fair share of history and mystery, myth ... and murder. When a body is found in a bus stop, fresh from the sea, the case smells fishy from the off. Something may be stirring beyond the bay - but there's something far stranger in the sky. Panel: An Evening of Romantasy in Leeds | Waterstones Leeds

Jul 10, 2025 (UTC+1)
Leeds
Arts
Literary Arts
We have another wonderful panel lined up, this time celebrating romantasy! We have five excellent authors joining us to talk about their books. This event is in conjunction with the British Fantasy Society. Sarah Rees Brennan will be our moderator for the conversation. The incredible author lineup is as follows: Catriona Silvey - Love And Other Paradoxes Is the future set in stone, or can we rewrite our fates? The sweetness of romcom About Time collides with the rich melancholy and high-stakes romance of Time Traveller's Wife in this gorgeous new love story destined to be future classic. Megan Scott - The Temptation Of Magic Serpent and Dove meets A Discovery of Witches in this lush, darkly magical romantasy debut. He was an Empyreal, her greatest threat, her greatest fascination. Everything she’d been warned against. And yet she wanted him, still. A luxurious, forbidden romance that will become your new obsession. . . Amy de la Force - A Kiss Of Hammer And Flame An immortal bound in darkness. A shattered empire at war. And a blacksmith whose heart could tip the scales of fate. A sizzling, action-packed romantasy, perfect for fans of The North Wind, Throne of Glass and The Book of Azrael. Ruth Frances Long - The Book of Gold In exchange for her brother's freedom, Lyta strikes a daring bargain with the king -she will steal the infamous Book of a mysterious manuscript reputed to be hiding vast magical power within. It's just the kind of challenge Lyta relishes, but she didn't bargain for a secretive scholar, her brother's interference, or the return of handsome and brooding Captain Sylvian Chant, once her lover and partner in crime, now an incorruptible royal bodyguard... Sarah Rees Brennan - Long Live Evil A dying girl seizes the chance to live again in the world of her favourite fantasy series in this wickedly funny, twist-laden romantasy. Expect a rogue's gallery of villains including an axe wielding maid, a shining knight with dark moods, a charmingly homicidal bodyguard, and a playboy spymaster with a golden heart and a filthy reputation. This event will be a 45 minutes conversation with the panel, 15 minutes of audience questions and then a signing. Information Source: Waterstones | eventbrite

Wild Play Day (for 8-12 yrs) | TCV Skelton Grange Environment Centre,

Jul 23, 2025 (UTC+1)
Leeds
Family Events
Set up camp for a day of wildness in the woods at TCV Skelton Grange... Activities will vary from session to session depending on the season and the group - but past Wild Play days have included: Wide games, shelter building, fire lighting, campfire cooking, field games, hammock hanging, wild food walks, woodwork crafts, string making, bows and arrows, stalking and tracking, pyro-carving and charcoal making. The cost per child is £33 (+ Eventbrite booking fee) and includes a day of outdoor games and bushcraft activities led by experienced leaders. Sessions run from 10am - 4pm. Please bring a packed lunch for the day. Please be aware that there is currently a security cabin and gate about halfway along Skelton Grange Road. This is for the construction site next door to the Environment Centre. If you travel by car they will probably note the vehicle registration, ask for the driver’s name and where you are going (tell them TCV). It is simply to keep track of traffic entering and leaving. If you are walking down you can go straight past. Essentially, don’t be worried when you see it, you are going to the right place! "The kids really enjoy their days - it is great for them to have a whole day outdoors learning new skills." "It is a wonderful opportunity to try new activities in a supportive and stimulating environment. 'J' found the adults inspiring, and can't wait to come back!" If you have any questions, compliments or complaints, contact the Skelton Grange Team on 0113 2430815 or skelton@tcv.org.uk. If the date you want to book onto is 'SOLD OUT' then please contact us - if there are enough requests we will endeavour to arrange another session during the same holiday period. All proceeds support the charitable work of The Conservation Volunteers at Skelton Grange Environment Centre. FAQs Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event? Your child must be between the ages of 8-12 years due to legal requirements regarding supervision. What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event? We have plenty of free parking and disabled parking available at the front of the centre. Should my child bring their phone? Wild play days are a chance to get away from screens for a day and enjoy being together outside without distractions. We would advise children not to bring a phone, but if they do we ask them to keep it in their bag during the day. My child has additional needs - can they still come? We will do everything that we can to support your child to be able to take part in our events although this will depend on what support needs your child has. We ask that you fully fill in the booking form so that we know how best to support your child and we may get in touch with you to find out more information. If you have any concerns, please contact our disability champion Chris Ensor (0113 2430815, c.ensor@tcv.org.uk) to discuss how we can best support your child. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No. But please be ready to tell us who will be collecting your child at the end of the day. When is the collection time? 4 pm. Cultural Experiences
This event You'll be able to drop off clothes from 3, but we won't allow anyone in to swap from 3:40 to ensure everything is set up. The bar will be open as normal during the event. There will be a changing room and a mirror. You can find us in the back room. We try to recycle clothes where possible, but we would really appreciate it if you could check that donations are clean and in good condition (i.e. not bobbled, ripped or stained). If you don't have clothes to swap but you want to take clothes, that's fine! We'll be taking financial donations to Trans Support Hub CIC, which helps us keep these events free for those who can't afford an entry fee. We've already got plenty of donations from our previous events, so whether you arrive at the start or the end of the event we'll have items to choose from. Where possible, we try to provide more specialist trans-related items, such as binders and chest enhancers. If you've got any, we'd really appreciate it as they don't stay with us for long. If you're not a member of Wharf Chambers already, please make sure you sign up (it's £2 per year) https://wharfchambers.org/membership/ Why Clothes Swaps? Clothes swaps are a great way to explore your style, help others and save clothes from going to landfill. About us We've been putting these events on since July 2022, and it's been heartwarming to see so many people exploring their style, their gender, or just revamping their wardrobe for something fresh. We'll be taking pictures to promote the work we do and future events. Please let us know on arrival if you don't want us to take your picture. Can't wait to see you all there! Find Out More To find out more about us, visit https://transsupporthub.co.uk/ To play our Rainbow Lottery, visit https://www.rainbowlottery.co.uk/support/trans-support-hub If you'd like to volunteer with us, we'd love to hear from you.
