Creative Journaling for LGBTQIA+ | The Salisbury Centre

Jul 13, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Edinburgh
Cultural Experiences
Take time at the end of your week for self-reflection. Together in a supportive group, we will journal using guided prompts to help process life events, imagine potential futures, and remember moments of magic. No writing experience is required. Journaling is a great way to process our busy lives. Whether you want to think through difficult experiences you’ve had, remember good times, or set goals for yourself, the act of slow writing can both help cement these ideas and give you a tangible object to look back on in the future. Each session will include time to chat with our supportive group about writing practices and anything that came up through the prompts. These are drop-in sessions, so feel free to come to one or all of the weeks. The Upstairs Studio is NOT fully accessible. All the other rooms at the ground floor (and the garden) are fully accessible; this includes the Wellspring Room, where these sessions will be held. We suggest a donation between £10 and £50. Donations are key for the Salisbury Centre to continue its work and to support the facilitators. If you are struggling to make ends meet at the moment, feel free to book a free ticket. Lily M. Frenette grew up in Minnesota, raised by the woods and waters. They write from the intersection of nature, magic, art, and community. Lily has an MSc in Creative Writing at the University of Edinburgh. She founded Alba Writing Club and lives with her cat familiar, Outlaw. Find them on Instagram @journalingirl. Morgan Szymanski and Tommy Perman / Live at The Voodoo Rooms | The Voodoo Rooms

Jul 13, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Edinburgh
Concerts
Morgan Szymanski and Tommy Perman / Live at The Voodoo Rooms ‘Songs for the Mist Forest’ is the second album by childhood friends, classical guitarist Morgan Szymanski and artist Tommy Perman. While their first album explored the sounds of the Scottish woodland where Tommy’s parents live, their new album is inspired by Morgan’s ranch in the mist forests of Valle de Bravo, Mexico. The music evolved from a soundtrack Morgan and Tommy produced for the documentary film ‘El Dragón de los Bosques de Niebla’ (The Dragon of the Mist Forest). The documentary shines a light on the ecocide that’s happening in Valle de Bravo. Overdevelopment is destroying the forests that are home to Abronias, beautiful small reptiles native to the region and the ‘dragons’ of the film’s title. Through 11 new compositions, Morgan and Tommy expand on the documentary’s theme of environmental crisis. Their music fuses Morgan’s guitar playing with numerous field recordings of Valle’s local wildlife and habitat using a series of innovative production techniques. The album highlights certain species that are close to disappearing: fireflies, birds, crickets, and Abronias, which are now on the red list. Together, Morgan and Tommy have crafted a suite of music that celebrates the beauty and vitality of our natural world and provides a call to action to save it while we still can.
