About This Workshop:
This workshop is for kids ages 5-12.
A class for kids, created by kids! Thanks to The Dapper Hammer (Kalamazoo) for letting us use their super fun youth class idea! Here's what their director has to say about the idea behind this workshop: "A couple years ago, after spending the holiday season making dozens of cutting boards, planters, and candle holders, I was left with buckets of really cool scraps and off cuts. My kids came to the shop with me one evening and while I was cleaning, they raided the scrap bin and started sanding, gluing, nailing, and screwing these scrap pieces together into what my daughter called 'Scrappy Sculptures.'"
In this class, youth will learn about different varieties and colors of wood, learn to use sanders, screwdrivers, clamps, speed squares, and most of all – their imagination! There’s no limit to what kids can create with the time and space to explore new ideas. The class will begin with an introduction and safety talk, some short tool demonstrations, and then students will design and create their own sculpture using hand tools, scrap wood, and glue.
Adults
When purchasing a ticket, please enter your child's name and age.
Upon arrival, please drop your child off by walking them into the building and complete a youth waiver before class begins.
There is not much extra room in our space for parents to stay and wait during our workshop, but we'd recommend hanging out down the street at Urbana Coffee or Wendigo Tea (3114 & 3116 Warsaw Ave 45205)
Please plan to return to Casa Colina 10 minutes early to pick up your kiddo at the conclusion of class.
Safety
Students will use hand tools and learn to operate a palm sander. They will also get to see an adult use a miter saw. Students will be provided with child-sized safety goggles and noise canceling ear muffs, which will be required at all times when standing near power tools. Masks are optional and not provided, please send your child with a mask if you prefer for them to wear one.
Additional notes:
Upon arrival, please complete a waiver for your youth before class begins
Please wear closed-toed shoes
Avoid wearing clothing with long ties (ie no hoodie strings)
Any long hair should be tied/clipped back
Sanitized eye and ear protection will be provided

WHAT IS IT?
A clothing swap is a free exchange of gently used clothing, accessories, and even small household items. No money changes hands and there is no limit to what you can bring or take. We trust each other to mindfully take what we need and share within our community.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We need awesome volunteers to help us make this event a smashing success. From setting up to welcoming attendees and everything in between, your energy will be a game-changer. Ready to lend a hand?
Sign up to volunteer here.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Our swap is for adult people of all genders and body sizes. All clothing will be combined and then sorted into two sections:
1. plus or extended sizes (XL and up)
2. straight sizes (L and down)
Then clothing will be sorted by type (top, bottom, etc).
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The swap is free! We don't want availability of funds to be a barrier to participating. That said, we will gladly accept donations in any amount. Any funds collected through donations will be used for future events (marketing, supplies, etc).
HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?
Bring your gently used clothing, accessories, and small household items to the event (or connect ahead of time to arrange an earlier drop off). Stay and browse. Try things on. Bring a bag to take home what you'd like! Meet cool people!
We recommend wearing light foundation garments (a thin top and bottoms/leggings). There will be limited space for trying on clothes so trying on items over what you're wearing will be your best option.
WHEN SHOULD I COME?
The nature of a swap is that it evolves over the course of the event. You can come at the beginning and stay the whole time or come later. Most people tend to come within the first two hours.
WHAT CAN I BRING?
Gently used clothing, accessories, or small household goods that no longer spark joy for you.
A note about condition - we want folks to bring things to the swap in wearable condition.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING:
- clothing or items that are dirty, stained, have holes, covered in pet hair, etc.
- kids clothing/items
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE LEFTOVERS?
Leftover items are donated to a local charity.
CAN I BRING A FRIEND?
Yes, please do! And invite them to join the

Beginning Rigid Heddle Weaving April 27 | Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati
Apr 27, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Cincinnati
Date
: Sunday Apr 27, 2025 10:00 am – 4:30 pm.
Ticket:
$75.
Instructor:
Nancy Niemeyer.
Materials fee:
none.
Skills Needed:
Beginners - no previous weaving experience needed.
Class Limit:
5
Rigid Heddle weaving is a great way to get started weaving in a simple way. Rigid heddle looms are inexpensive, portable, and quick to warp. You will learn to direct warp a rigid heddle loom, learn the basics of weaving, and create a beautiful plain weave scarf of 5 to 7 feet in just 6 hours. The instructor will have a 5 page handout and the necessary equipment (including a loom) for you to use in class. The only thing you need to supply is the Marble Chunky yarn in the color of your choice. We use a 5 dent heddle and bulky yarn to make the weaving go quickly. If you have your own rigid heddle loom and do not have a 5 dent heddle you must let the instructor know so an alternate yarn can be suggested. The yarns listed below will not work with any heddle other than a 5 or 6 dent heddle.
This weaving class involves direct warping techniques, which require certain physical abilities to ensure a successful and comfortable experience. Participants should be able to:
Walk back and forth between the loom and the peg (approximately 10 feet): Direct warping requires walking short distances to arrange and tension the warp threads. This will involve walking from the loom to a peg (about 10 feet away) and back multiple times throughout the warping process which takes about an hour.
Stand or sit for extended periods: You will need to be able to stand or sit comfortably while working at the loom, adjusting the tension, and threading the warp.
Use hands and fingers with dexterity: The direct warping process requires threading yarn through the heddle and other loom components, which calls for fine motor skills and finger dexterity.
Focus on detailed tasks: Participants should be able to focus on detailed tasks for an extended periods.
Supplies to buy:
One (1) ball of James C. Brett Marble Chunky. Marble Chunky is available locally at Silk Road Textiles on Hamilton Ave. in College Hill or many online yarn retailers. If you cannot get the recommended yarn, please contact the teacher.
Problems registering? Contact the Education Committee at classes@weaversguildcincinnati.org.

Depending on the
CDC guidelines
for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.
Unless specifically stated, Weavers Guild classes are designed for ages 18 and above. On a case-by-case basis, a minor may be permitted to register for a class but must be accompanied by a registered adult who agrees to assist the minor during the class. Contact the Education Committee Chair at classes@weaversguildcincinnati.org
for permission before registering any minor in a class.
Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students.
