Join the Beginning Lapidary - Cabochon Cutting event in Seattle at NW Rockhounds. This informative class, led by Carly VDH, will teach participants the art of cutting stone and transforming rough stones into beautiful shaped and polished cabochons. Taking place on October 21st, from 11am to 2:30pm, this class is open to individuals aged 18 and up. During the session, attendees will gain knowledge about the various tools used in stone cutting, become comfortable working with equipment, and have the opportunity to cut a Brazilian Agate into a calibrated oval shape. The resulting cabochon can then be used in jewelry or displayed in a case. Please note that this class is one of the prerequisites for accessing the open lapidary studio. Before the event, check your email for further instructions. The classroom is located upstairs and has a limited capacity of 4 students. As this class involves working with loud equipment, earplugs will be provided. Masks are optional, although there is a stage in the stone cutting process where masks are required and will be provided as well. Secure your seat at this event, as tickets are non-transferable and cancellations made 7 days or more in advance will receive a refund. Don't miss this opportunity to learn the art of cutting stone and create your own unique cabochons.

Through theater, we aim to express voices and shed light on the unseen individuals in the eyes of the public and mainstream media. We want to bring attention to immigrants who have left their homes, the individuals behind political conflicts, and the world we all live in. In our series of play readings, we explore the question of who we are as individuals behind the chapters of history. While there are grand narratives that engulf us like waves, I also want you to understand the happiness and misfortunes hidden behind each individual. Although changing the world we live in may seem difficult, I invite you to take a glimpse of what it looks like. Theater may not change the world, but it can influence our perception and provide a tangible view of the unseen world. We believe that thinking and understanding serve as the bridge linking different perspectives. Each play reading typically accommodates 10-15 participants, and roles will be assigned on the spot. Participants will engage in a reading of carefully selected and prepared English scripts. You can also improvise based on your interpretation of the character descriptions. The script for the upcoming event, "The Jungle," revolves around a temporary refugee camp in Calais, France, where thousands of refugees fleeing drought, war, and violence seek their "good opportunity" to reach the UK. The play raises the question of why those who cross borders for safety and a home must face severe harm and danger. "The Jungle" was written by Joe Robertson and Joe Murphy, founders of the Good Chance Theatre Company, and tells the story of people living in the temporary refugee camp in Calais.
