The Toyama Kita Nippon Shimbun Summer Fireworks Festival is the most spectacular light show in Toyama Prefecture, held at the lower reaches of the Arisawa Bridge of the Jinzu River near the city center. Many families and couples come here to visit. A large circle of brilliant light appears in the sky, including colorful star mines and a series of huge fireworks. The Summer Fireworks Festival, held every August 1, began two years after the Great Toyama Air Raid (August 1-2, 1945) with the purpose of praying for the victims and praying for reconstruction and peace.

Etchu Owara (Etchu Owara) has been performed for over 300 years in this village nestled among the mountains southwest of Toyama City. It is both song and dance, lyrical, delicate, elegantly mournful. Thousands of paper lanterns line the old-fashioned townscape of lattice doors, while men and women in happi coats and yukatas dance through the hillside village to the accompaniment of samisen, kokyus (traditional Japanese stringed instruments) and taiko drums. You will be enchanted by the calm, dreamy atmosphere. Street performances are held in each area.

Kushida Shrine holds a traditional event every autumn. After a procession of portable shrines and lion dances around the community center, a "cedar branch" is burned within the shrine grounds. Participants bravely walk through the flames, purifying their bodies and minds. The festival's exact origins are unclear, but it is believed to have been introduced by monks from Tendai Sanbushi, as the Tendai sect's three schools were once located in the hills of Mount Osa, south of the shrine.
