Beginner Contemporary Dance Class Brighton May 27th | The Loft at Little Dippers
May 27, 2025 (UTC+0)
Brighton
These classes are for you to focus on the experience of dancing, rather than what it looks like. Centred on enjoyment, with medium length dance sequences, and plenty of time for learning and embodying the movement. Previous dance experience is not required for you to attend this class. All my classes are danced in my own contemporary style, which has emerged from my years of training in Ballet, Flying Low, Release, Cunningham, Graham, Tap, Jazz and others… Each class contains warm up, teaching and dancing of phrases, cool down, finished with a relaxation. Check out my Contemporary page for more details. Who will be teaching this workshop? Nathan Krifdom is a dance teacher, choreographer, and performer, currently teaching in Brighton. A year after graduating uni in Dance and Choreography, he launched his dance teaching business. Through his teaching he aims to connect people to their bodies in new ways, teach students to dance in a sustainable way; so their bodies stay healthy and happy for longer, bring new people into the exciting world of dance who may not have tried it before, and spark passion and joy in his students, as well as much more... Nathan is also an Advanced Lvl 3 Reiki practitioner, and has been working with Reiki for over six years. This training in healing and energy influences his dance practice and teaching, adding another level of understanding about the body and mind connection. The Arrival of Film in Brighton | Brighton West Pier Centre
May 29, 2025 (UTC+0)
Brighton and Hove
The end of the 19th Century was an era of technological wonder. Alongside electricity, the telephone and recorded sound, three vision technologies became very popular - photography, the magic lantern and film. Brighton & Hove emerged as a centre for all of these marvels. The sea-going electric car made its way through the sea, photographic studios lined King’s Road, a film studio was erected in Hove and lantern and film shows were screened in the theatres, music halls and on the piers. This talk introduces these wonders and looks at those first films to be made and seen in Brighton from 1895.Dr Frank Gray is an early film historian, a curator of film exhibitions for Brighton & Hove Museums, the co-founder of Cinecity (the Brighton Film Festival) and the retired Director of Screen Archive South East at the University of Brighton. It collects, preserves and shares films made in Brighton & Hove and the region and its collection can be viewed at: screenarchive.brighton.ac.ukFrame still from James Williamson’s ‘A Big Swallow’, Hove, 1901 (image credit: BFI/SASE)

Behrang Karimi | Morena di Luna
May 31–Sep 7, 2025 (UTC)
Hove
Karimi uses a range of methods, including monotypes, wood- and linocuts and gouache; combined, they create a lively dialogue between the artist and his work. Landscapes and views are often merely hinted at – humans are the true heart of Karimi’s work, appearing as portraits, in classic poses, as lying and seated nudes, alone and in groups. The room around them is diffuse, sometimes suggested by a doorway flooded with light, other times by another person appearing at the edge of the picture. Two people face one another, rigid as statues, separated by a light expanse of color, of water? His figures seem delicate and brittle, as does the scenery they move within. They all portray small episodes within a unique moment – like the worm crawling towards the apple – that disappear almost before we have fully grasped their significance.
