The State of Internal Trade - CIC Politics in the Pub | The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse

Jun 23, 2025 (UTC-3)ENDED
Halifax
Conferences
Please join us for our next Politics in the Pub event: The State of Internal Trade ! Mark your calendars for an engaging evening on June 23 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Old Triangle in downtown Halifax. We're delighted to host R yan Manucha - a leading expert on interprovincial trade in Canada. Ryan is working on the front lines dismantling trade barriers across the country by supporting governments through his deep research and advocacy. He will share with us an overview of the topic of internal trade, where the issue stands, how we got here, and the outlook. Ryan penned multiple popular articles (like this one ) and insightful policy reports (like this one ). However, my favourite piece of his work remains his phenomenal book - Booze, Cigarettes, And Constitutional Dust-ups: Canada's Quest For Interprovincial Free Trade Book By Ryan Manucha, (Paperback) | Indigo . It is engaging, full of fascinating stories and anecdotes about trade between Canadian provinces and territories. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to better understand our unique country! In recent months, breaking down interprovincial trade has gained historical momentum. First, it was driven by the shifting international trade environment and then by Nova Scotia passing a "game changer" legislation - Free Trade and Mobility within Canada Act. Even His Majesty King Charles III, King of Canada mentioned in the Speech from the Throne the commitment of the federal government "to remove all remaining federal barriers to internal trade and labour mobility by Canada Day." As we are approaching the July 1 deadline to dismantle internal trade barriers, Ryan is without doubt one of the best people to ask your questions about the history, present and possible future of Canada's internal trade. Reserve your spot today! Spaces are limited! Don’t miss this unique opportunity to be part of a vibrant discussion in a relaxed and social atmosphere. Event Details: Date : June 23, 2025 Time : 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Location : The Old Triangle, 5136 Prince St, Halifax Ticket Price : CIC Members: $25, Non-members: $35 Become a Member Capacity : 20 people Your ticket includes an alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage of your choice from the Old Triangle’s beverage menu, as well as shared finger foods. CIC-Halifax Politics in the Pub is a monthly gathering that features engaging speakers on a diverse range of topics. It’s all about fostering a vibrant CIC community and connecting with like-minded international relations enthusiasts. Join us to dive into discussions on politics, trade, and foreign affairs, all surrounded by great company, delicious food, and refreshing drinks. About R yan Manucha : A leading expert on interprovincial trade in Canada, Ryan Manucha is frequently called upon to advise governments and agencies. His work and words have appeared in prominent Canadian peer-reviewed legal journals, and in publications such as The Globe and Mail, The National Post, The Hill Times, The Hub and The New York Times. A regular media commentator, he has been featured on CBC News, BBC World Service, BNN Bloomberg, and CBC Radio. His book Booze, Cigarettes and Constitutional Dust-Ups: Canada’s Quest for Interprovincial Free Trade won the Donner Prize for best in Canadian public policy writing and was a finalist for the Balsillie Prize for Public Policy. His solutions-focused research is routinely published by Canada’s leading think tanks. He is currently a research fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute. Ryan holds a JD from Harvard Law School and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Yale University. Information Source: Canadian International Council - Halifax Branch | eventbrite
