Identifying and Exploring Gaps in Health Care Delivery in Nova Scotia | Halifax Central Library
Jun 16, 2025 (UTC-3)ENDED
Halifax
Do you have thoughts on gaps in healthcare delivery in Nova Scotia?
We want to hear from you.
We’ve partnered with
ADDING HEAT
, a project of the
Health Equity Research Lab
at Dalhousie University with support from CIHR and Research NS.
ADDING HEAT (AD[D]
vanc
ING
HEA
lth equi
T
y) is all about making the health care system meet
our
needs better.
ADDING HEAT is learning about the gaps by gathering information through
surveys
and interviews, and listening to the diverse voices within communities. This evidence will be used to influence policy and promote an increased awareness of how healthcare needs to be delivered in Nova Scotia, and ultimately make the health care system better for us!
Help ensure that what we’ve heard reflect
your experiences
and the needs of our community, and what we can do about it.
Together we will:
Review evidence that exposes systemic issues affecting healthcare access and quality.
Make recommendations on how the current system works so it addresses the health needs of people living in Nova Scotia more effectively and efficiently.
Discuss how we (Eating Disorders NS) can use the results to promote changes in the health care system.
We especially want to hear from folks who belong to groups that are underserved by the current system because we believe that members of these groups can tell us the most about what needs to change in the health system.
Registration is required.
An honorarium will be provided in recognition of your time and expertise.
Open to anyone living in Nova Scotia.
Prefer to connect via Zoom? You can register for the virtual session on June 12th
here.

About International Surfing Day
Launched by The Surfrider Foundation (USA) and partners in 2005 to raise awareness and support beaches and coastal environments,
International Surfing Day (ISD)
is a day to celebrate the love of surfing, which native Hawaiians invented and know as
he‘e nalu
.
This year, ISD coincides with
National Indigenous Peoples Day
, which is held annually on the summer solstice and is a day to recognize and celebrate the traditions, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis. On this day and always, we believe it is important to acknowledge that the land and waters on which we live, work, and play in Atlantic Canada are the traditional and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq and other Indigenous Peoples who have lived here since time immemorial. We recognize their enduring connection to the land, waters, and community, and we express gratitude and respect as we continue to learn and live together.
About
The Yin & Yang of Gerry Lopez
:
Gerry Lopez, Mr. Pipeline, is one of surfing’s most enigmatic heroes—a Zen Buddhist on land who built his early career on aggressive surfing. Patagonia Film’s
The Yin & Yang of Gerry Lopez
—directed by award-winning filmmaker Stacy Peralta—follows one of the most influential surfers and surfboard shapers of all time as he brings surfing to new frontiers while pursuing stillness of body and mind. Come ride the lightning.

Blood on the Clocktower Teach 'n Play | The Board Room Game Cafe
Jun 19, 2025 (UTC-3)ENDED
Halifax
"In the quiet village of Ravenswood Bluff, a demon walks amongst you..."
Join Peter as Storyteller for this spooky mystery game!
During a hellish thunderstorm, on the stroke of midnight, there echoes a bone-chilling scream. The townsfolk rush to investigate and find the town storyteller murdered, their body impaled on the hands of the clocktower, blood dripping onto the cobblestones below. A Demon is on the loose, murdering by night and disguised in human form by day. Some have scraps of information. Others have abilities that fight the evil or protect the innocent. But the Demon and its evil minions are spreading lies to confuse and breed suspicion. Will the good townsfolk put the puzzle together in time to execute the true demon and save themselves? Or will evil overrun this once peaceful village?
Blood on the Clocktower is a bluffing game enjoyed by 5 to 15 players on opposing teams of Good and Evil, overseen by a Storyteller player who conducts the action and makes crucial decisions. The goal of the game is to successfully deduce and execute the demons before they outnumber the townfolk.
During a 'day' phase players socialize openly and whisper privately to trade knowledge or spread lies, culminating in a player's execution if a majority suspects them of being Evil. At 'night' time, players close their eyes and are woken one at a time by the Storyteller to gather information, spread mischief, or kill.
Admission is $10 each (+tax and Eventbrite fees), granting everyone access to both the event, and our collection of 600+ board games before and after the event (provided there is space)! Event is ALL AGES, but please note that any guests under 14 must be accompanied by a chaperone.

Learning with Mi'kma'ki is a new professional development opportunity for early childhood professionals in Nova Scotia.
This training provides an opportunity for participants to see the natural environment, Earth science, sustainability, reciprocity, and interconnectedness, with two eyes — Etuaptmumk (ed-do-up-dm-momk)
. The work represents Mi’kmaw-first voice, with the support and advice of a standing committee.
The 6-hour course is an introduction for Early Childhood Educators to explore their immediate relationship with place and how this knowledge can be integrated in learning environments for Early Learners. The field book, which is a part of the training, requires participants to reflect on knowledge and teachings. It helps guide participants in understanding how they, as members of this place, are to be present and, in turn, how being present can be directly linked to the work of Early Learning and Child Care.
